Hostels in Bled that we think are the best and worth staying at

Hostels or backpackers, as they are also known, are a popular option for those seeking low-cost accommodations in Bled. Although they’re commonly known as youth hostels, this form of accommodation can be ideal for budget travelers of any age. Most spaces and amenities are usually shared, but even if you’re not up for the cheapest option – a bed in a dorm room – you can often get a basic private room at a Bled hostel for significantly less than the cost of a low-end hotel or privately rented room.

Competition between Bled hostels has grown over the past 5-10 years so the quality has risen considerably. There are now some really nice hostels in Bled, find out which are the ones that we recommend and why!

Hostels (a.k.a. backpackers) in Bled that we recommend
CASTLE HOSTEL 1004
Bled, Slovenia
Collage of Castle Hostel 1004 in Bled, Slovenia

Castle Hostel 1004 enjoys a reputation as being one of Europe's best hostels. It's in a great location being only a 2 minute walk from the main bus station in Bled (underneath the castle) and it's about a 5 minute walk from the lake. It's in the older part of Bled, away from big hotels and the main restaurant strip which is 10 minutes on foot. A supermarket is a 2 minute walk away so super easy to pop out and pick up extras. There is also a great cafe and cake shop just across the road. The hostel itself isn't very big, but it's comfortable and the facilities feel newish overall. There are several dorm rooms with 6-12 beds and also a few private rooms. The dorm rooms are of average size but the beds are comfortable and sheets clean. There are lockers next to the beds, as well as your own socket and a light. They have plenty of very clean individual showers and toilets. There's a nice common area with sofa, tables, computers and TV, free internet and PlayStation. The common area itself is quite small, but it's got everything you need and makes for a friendly place. It shuts at 22:00 each night, so this is not a party hostel, but a very cosy relaxing place to spend a a few nights. There's a well equipped modern kitchen with good fridge space and arrangements for identifying left overs. They also have a fantastic huge balcony with loads of seats and great views. The whole place is very clean and tidy with a 'shoes left in the hallway' policy and has a fresh feel. The guys who own it are very friendly and helpful, giving you a tour of the hostel when you arrive and have extensive knowledge about the Bled area and are always available to help you with any decision making on what to do, where to go and how to get there - and all with fun and a smile. They know their town inside out. As the hostel is not very big, it's easy to meet other travelers. The only downsides to the hostel are the weak WiFi signal in some rooms and lack of air conditioning. All in all, a great budget-oriented place to stay in Bled. It's a hostel, but if you're used to that and the usual hostel set up then it's perfect - comfortable cheap, cosy, clean!

JAZZ HOSTEL BLED
Bled, Slovenia
Collage of Jazz Hostel Bled in Slovenia

Jazz Hostel Bled is a wonderful quaint hostel conveniently located just on the edge of town with easy access to all amenities. It is about a 5-10 minute walk to the lake and the main bus station, 2 minutes to a very decent priced supermarket and 10-15 minutes to the castle. A number of restaurants, bars and cafes are pretty much right across the street. The hostel itself is small but beautifully maintained and has a very relaxed, easy going atmosphere. Both dorm beds and private rooms (with private or shared bathrooms) are available. The dorm rooms are clean, comfortable, spacious and very modern. Each bed has its own bed light, socket and huge locker space under the bed. There is even a balcony attached to the top storey dorm from which you get an amazing view of the mountains. The private rooms are beautiful, tastefully decorated, up-to-date with fixtures, all with very comfortable beds and great views. Both private and shared bathrooms are modern and very clean with plenty of hot water. They offer complimentary towels and bath necessities, too! There's also a nice two bedroom apartment/suite that is great for families and has a fully equipped kitchen and a lovely bathroom with an awesome shower. Other facilities in the hostel include a kitchen, computers which are free to use, free WiFi, luggage storage and a bar next door. The kitchen is well equipped and has two hobs, a George Foreman grill, two fridges and all the pots, pans and crockery you could possibly need. The breakfast available for guests is very tasty and also excellent value. There's a nice amount of choice including eggs, ham, bacon, cheese, waffles, breads, cereals, etc. The hostel also organises the all-you-can-eat barbecue every second night for less than you'd pay for an appetizer for most places in town, The owners Jani and his wife Urska are so welcoming, friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much bother and they also give you a map and a quick guide to the town and recommend food places and attractions along with discount vouchers for most places. There is a neat bar attached to the hostel, which is also run by Jani and family. The bar is also wallet-friendly and a great place to meet other guests. The free WiFi is great, with average download speed of just over 4Mbps, so great. Parking is easy and free on the premises. All in all, it's a fantastic budget option, definitely one of the best in Bled.

GARDEN HOUSE BLED
Bled, Slovenia
Collage of Garden House Bled in Slovenia

Garden House Bled is a charming and very unique small hostel with an upcycled theme which works beautifully. The location is great and tranquil and it's just a short 3-5 minute walk to the lake and many nice restaurants and bars, also very close to a supermarket (3 minutes on foot). The decor of the hostel is adorable, it is creatively rustic, made entirely of upcycled and recycled materials for a beautiful shabby chic look. The attention to detail is truly amazing and everything is very clean and tidy. This is a mixed type accommodation with a mix of 4 and 6 bed dorm rooms and private double rooms. The beds and also bunk beds are surprisingly very comfortable with clean and fresh linen and thick mattresses. The bathrooms are cleaned a few times a day and have everything you need. If you want to use the shower you get the entire bathroom to yourself rather than just a cubicle, which seems like a luxury compared to hostels which usually just have a row of showers. It makes showering and dressing much easier and pleasant. The communal kitchen and lounge area is very well furnished but still remains to have a rustic feel. Kitchen is well equipped which makes cooking and preparing food easy. Again, all the areas are very tidy and clean. The kitchen also has a lot of free food/ingredients for use. Lounge includes large flatscreen TV with several international channels. They have awesome heating systems as well as a great big furnace oven to keep the communal areas pleasantly warm in the colder months. The outside areas are very pretty as well with areas to sit out and relax. There's a BBQ and fire pit for guests to use and the lighting in the trees at night look so beautiful. It's obvious that a lot of thought has gone into small details which gives this unique hostel a charming atmosphere. The owners and all the staff at the hostel are genuinely friendly and eager to help with any queries. They have so many activities you can book with them. There's free WiFi but the signal isn't very strong in some of the rooms. Limited free parking is available but fills quickly. In summary, perfect location less than 5 minutes walk to the lake and main restaurants, comfortable beds and nicely decorated rooms, very clean, lovely chill out garden area and very friendly and helpful staff.

BACK HOSTEL
Bled, Slovenia
Collage of Back Hostel in Bled, Slovenia

Back Hostel is a nice family-run hostel with a very laid back friendly feel. It is located in a quieter part of Bled, away from the main centre. It is about 5 minutes walk from the main bus station and under 10 minutes to the lake and the centre of Bled. There is a supermarket and bike rental store very close by. The hostel itself is clean and well maintained. The rooms are relatively small and have either 2 or 3 bunk beds, which is nice and comfortable. The bunk beds are surprisingly sturdy. Usually they're made of metal and squeak when you move so you wake people up, but these ones are solid wood and put together properly - nothing moves when you climb in to bed! The rooms have lots of natural light and are cleaned everyday which is great, but sadly don't have lockers or A/C which is slightly unpleasant. The bathrooms are single rooms with toilet and shower which makes it nice to close the door. The kitchen is small but good enough for preparing a snack or having a take-away meal. The hostel doesn't have an option for breakfast, but there is a breakfast place a few buildings away. The family that runs this place couldn't be nicer. They are so friendly, helpful and genuinely nice. They go above and beyond to help you in every way and make sure you have a good stay. There's a pretty decent bar downstairs, but it closes at 23:00, so not noisy when going to sleep. There is free WiFi with more than adequate speed and a good signal throughout the building. Free parking is available too. Overall, the hostel is simple, but it is has all the basics required and is clean and also very good value.

YOUTH HOSTEL & PENZION BLEDEC
Bled, Slovenia
Collage of Youth Hostel and Penzion Bledec in Bled, Slovenia

Youth Hostel and Penzion Bledec is located in the older part of Bled, about a 10 minute walk to the lake and downtown Bled and about a 15 minute walk to the castle. The main bus station is five minutes on foot. Nearby are a selection of restaurants and pubs and also a supermarket. There are a mix of dorm rooms and private double rooms. The dorm rooms are standard with wooden bunk beds, but still nice for a youth hostel. There's not a lot of space, but a good amount of lockable storage. The bathrooms are of decent size with a great shower. The kitchen is kind of small but reasonably well equipped. At dinner time you'll often have to wait quite some time to get a space on the stove top and the dinning table is small too with only a few seats. The hostel doesn't have a common room area, which may be a big downfall for some solo backpackers. The owners are quite friendly and on hand most of the time to give advice and directions on everything from the most popular attractions to the best and most affordable restaurants. The WiFi works well in the rooms and is free. In summary, a good budget hostel, clean, comfortable and a great value place to stay in Bled, but if you love meeting other backpackers, then this is not the best hostel for you,
