50 Beautiful Lake Bled Photos To Inspire You To Visit Slovenia

About Lake Bled

In Slovenia, there is a real place that looks like it came from the fairy tale world! That place is the beautiful Lake Bled, a 2,220 metre by 1,380 metre lake of glacial origins, with a maximum depth of about 30 meters. It’s a perfect aquamarine color. It has a small island with a lovely Gothic church on it in the middle, and a medieval castle on the cliff above, all surrounded by picturesque mountains of the Julian Alps. It is so beautiful that you’ll swear it’s been photoshopped.

The lake is located in northwestern Slovenia, some 55 kilometres (34 miles) northwest of Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana. No words can do this remarkable place justice so we’ll leave it up to the pictures to do the talking.

  1. Re the name of the Church in English, the correct word is “ASCENSION” of the Virgin Mary, NOT “Assumption” — look both words in the dictionary! Assumption is a noun for the verb assume, which is something one should NEVER do, about anything.

    1. That’s not correct. In Catholicism, the Assumption of the Virgin Mary refers to the bodily taking of Mary to Heaven. Assumption is indeed the correct term.

  2. What is most incredible is that the photos to be found here aren’t nearly half as nice as the real thing. True that there is an ample touristic infrastructure, however it does not too much harm to the magic of the place which will surely enchant you – art nouveau buildings, picturesque castle, idyllic island and a most beautiful turquoise water colour that is breathtaking even in the middle of the night.
