The delicious Lake Bled cream cake a.k.a. Cremeschnitte

The alpine resort town of Bled with its idyllic lake, island with a church, and castle, is among the most iconic sights in Slovenia. But Bled is the home to another Slovenian icon, the Bled cream cake (or cremeschnitte), known in Slovenian as kremna rezina or kremsnita. The Bled cream cake is a vanilla and custard cream cake dessert extremely popular in Slovenia. Many visitors to Lake Bled look forward to sampling the famous Bled cream cake. It is a very smooth, creamy and soft dessert, which will stimulate your senses and leave you begging for more.

The name of the dessert means simply cream slice. Most locals refer to it as kremsnita, from the German word Cremeschnitte, with the same meaning. Image by Thomas Au / CC BY 2.0

The recipe for Bled Cream Cake is a secret but you can guess most of its ingredients: eggs, cream and milk with a small amount of sugar. Most cafes in Bled offer their version of the dish which all look almost identical but taste slightly different. If you have your Bled cream cake or cremeschnitte at the Park Hotel you’ll be eating at the location of the original Lake Bled cream cake and you’ll have one of the best views of the beautiful lake as you indulge.
