Photos: Javorniski Rovt Covered In A Beautiful White Blanket Of Daffodils

Javorniski Rovt is a small mountain village in the Karavanke mountain range above the town of Jesenice in northwestern Slovenia, near the Austrian border.

Every spring in the month of May, the meadows around the village get covered in a beautiful white blanket of daffodils. It is really an incredible sight to see all the meadows turn almost completely white. Many visitors and photographers come here to enjoy this magical view, and to snap a photo or two!

Locals call these ‘kljucavnice’, which means ‘locks’ in Slovenian. According to legend, God became very angry when he saw that bees were collecting nectar on Sundays. Therefore, he installed locks on the daffodil flowers that prevented the bees from accessing the nectar on that day, and gave the flowers their name. (photo: Leon Vidic)

Narcissus poeticus is native to central and southern Europe from Spain, France through Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia to Croatia, Greece and Ukraine. (photo: Leon Vidic)
