The lovely little tear-shaped Bled Island is located in the middle of Lake Bled, a glacial lake in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia. It’s the only natural island in Slovenia and it’s well known for its unique location. Placed in a picturesque environment, with snowy mountains all around, the Bled island is a magical place that looks like something from a fairy tale.
With extraordinary natural beauty, Lake Bohinj, together with its surroundings, ranks among the most beautiful places in Europe.
The postcard-worthy Church of St. John the Baptist sits along the shores of Lake Bohinj. It is what every medieval church should be – small, surrounded by natural beauty, and full of beautiful artwork and frescoes.
One of the most beautiful places on the Pokljuka plateau is the Zajamniki alpine pasture with well preserved shepherds’ huts positioned in a specific fish bone pattern. Today, these are of course weekend huts, but due to the state protection some characteristics have been preserved.
