Hostels in Koper are the go-to option for travellers and backpackers who plan to spend very little of their time in their room and most of their time exploring Koper and the Slovenian coast. They’re also a great way to meet other travellers. Unlike a hotel, hostels are more communal in nature and that includes sharing a room with strangers, although often you can get a private room if you want to pay a little more.

Koper, Slovenia Hostel Villa Domus is a lovely hostel type accommodation housed in a new modern building on the edge of Koper's old town and close to the bus station. It is a 15 minute walk into the seafront area, meaning hostel is quiet. There are lots of eateries and shopping centre within walking distance. This is a mixed type accommodation and you can book either a bed in a 4-bed dorm room or a twin room, studio or apartment. All twin rooms, studios and apartments come with a private bathroom and studios and apartments also have a small kitchen which is good for those who want to cook. The accommodation is hostel / student type, so pretty basic, but the hostel is relatively new, so all the rooms and bathrooms are modern and very clean. Floor to ceiling windows are great, so bright and light. The bunk beds in the dorm rooms are made of metal and they shake a little and squeak when someone gets in/out or is just moving about. Would have been better if they were attached to the wall and less squeaky. The beds in all twin rooms, studios and apartments are much more comfortable and the linens smell fresh. Some rooms have beautiful views of Koper's old town. The staff are great, they are friendly, knowledgeable and make you feel extremely welcome, They go out of their way to make sure you have the information you need and make recommendations on how best to use your time. The unpretentious bistro on the ground floor is a bonus, offering nice simple meals and drinks at excellent price. Free WiFi works well throughout the building. The parking is available about a 2-minute walk away for a small fee. All in all, a great, value for money, well located and clean place to stay in Koper. We absolutely recommend it as a base for travelling around the coast of Slovenia. Location: Comfort: Cleanliness: Facilities: Staff & Service: Atmosphere: Value for money: Free WiFi: Free parking: |
Koper, Slovenia Hostel Museum is a lovely family-run accommodation conveniently located in the heart of Koper. The place is actually more of a guesthouse or budget hotel than a hostel as it has private rooms with either shared or private bathrooms. Location is perfect especially if you like to swim as the sea front is only a 3 minute walk. It's also only a few steps away from the main Tito square and all the main tourist attractions in Koper. It's in a residential area and the bus and train stations are only a 5 minute walk away. The rooms appear to have been recently renovated. They are very clean and basically, yet comfortably furnished - just beds and desks, The beds are quite comfortable and there is a ceiling fan (which cools the air a bit) but no air conditioning. Some rooms have flat screen TVs with several international channels. The bathrooms (both private and shared) are in a great condition too. Overall cleanliness gets a thumbs up. There is a fully functional shared kitchen which is handy for the budget traveller, since eating out can be expensive. Staff are very helpful and knowledgeable about the area, especially the owner Doris. She is a delightful lady who immediately makes you feel at home. She caters for all your needs. The wi-fi coverage is good throughout the establishment and there's convenient free parking (which is tough to come by in downtown Koper) for those with a car. There's a nice front-of-house bar with terrace where you can enjoy few drinks, and simple but good breakfast. Overall, a very nice budget-friendly place to stay in the very centre of Koper, perfect for those who want to enjoy the old town and go for a swim at the nearby beach. If we wanted to we could point out some negatives but it wouldn't be fair as we would have to compare it with top range hotels which it simply isn't and doesn't ever imply it is. If you are travelling on a budget, this is a great choice. Location: Comfort: Cleanliness: Facilities: Staff & Service: Atmosphere: Value for money: Free WiFi: Free parking: |
Koper, Slovenia Hostel Secret Garden is a small hostel located in the middle of Koper's lovely old town. It's in an old building, but on the inside it's shiny and new. The hostel was refurbished in 2016, so the decor and fittings are still new and fresh. It is well signposted and easy to find and there are many restaurants, cafes, bars and a nice bakery within 5 minutes walking. Koper is really an incredible place to wander round and soak in the atmosphere of the narrow winding streets. The hostel itself has two bathrooms with showers, and two kitchens (cooking is allowed) with a dining table, between 4 dormitories of 4-6 beds. The rooms are on the small side but clean. Bunk beds are solid and a good size with a personal book light. There are security lockers and lot of shelves for everyone in the room. The rooms are air-conditioned and one also has a small balcony. Both bathrooms are modern and clean with hot showers, but even though it's a small hostel with only 4 rooms, you might have to wait a little for your turn in the morning to get in. The hostel itself feels friendly and social, and the owner Mustafa is at the reception desk most of the time and happy to chat or answer any queries about the local area. Everyone gets a key to the entrance, so there's no curfew. There's a nice little garden outside with Mediterranean plants and you can also use a BBQ. The free WiFi is strong and public parking is available nearby for a very small fee. All in all, a great small hostel with great quality of facilities, clean, great central location and quiet. Opting for a bed and breakfast over other types of lodging is a great way to personalize your stay and get to know the locals. Bed and breakfasts feel like you are literally staying in someone’s house, because often you are. The advantage of a B&B is that the breakfasts are often home cooked meals that are prepared with love and attention. These meals are included in your room rate and are a great way to start your day. With all the comforts of home, apartments are a great choice for lodging during your trip to Koper. They are often more affordable and can be very comfortable places to stay. But be careful, the rates and quality vary seriously, so always do a good research before you book an apartment! |

In recent years, farm stays are growing among a number of travelers looking to reconnect with fresh air, local and organic foods, and a more simple and authentic lifestyle on vacation. Farm stays are a form of accommodation on a working farm. Actual accommodations can vary from a room in a farm house, to a cabin or a guest cottage. Typical rates are similar to a bed and breakfast, and like a bed and breakfast, some offer delicious home cooked meals. Some farm stays also allow guests to participate in the daily activities on the farm if they choose. |
Koper or Capodistria as it is called in Italian shows two faces to the world: one is a modern, loud and busy industrial part of the city with the only commercial port in Slovenia. The other is the charming small Old Town with the lovely square of Titov Trg and late medieval and early Renaissance buildings, such as the Praetorian Palace, the Loggia Palace and the Cathedral of the Assumption built in Venetian styles. |
