Introducing The Lipica Stud Farm
The Lipica Stud Farm is located at the edge of the Lipica village in the southwestern corner of Slovenia, close to the border with Italy. It is the cradle of all Lipizzaner (or Lipizzan) horses in the world, a breed which dates back to the 16th century in the time of Maria Theresa of Austria, when it was developed with the support of the Habsburg nobility. The Stud Farm is one of the oldest ones in the world with a tradition dating back to 1580! It is one of the most visited cultural and historical monuments in Slovenia. Nowadays it also includes a hotel and leisure complex, as well as the Lipikum Museum dedicated to various aspects of the stud and the Lipizzan breed.
Lipica Stud Farm Review
The Lipica stud farm is one of the most important and one of the most beautiful cultural and historical monuments in Slovenia, with the history reaching back to the year of 1580. It is the cradle of the famous and elegant Lipizzaner (a.k.a. Lipizzan) horse. These magnificent creatures are characterised by a perfect and noble physique, the ability to learn, graceful movements, liveliness, and good nature.
The Lipica stud farm opened its doors to tourists in the 1960s. In the 1990s, Lipica became a public institution that is owned by the Republic of Slovenia and has made a huge progress since then. The stud farm now successfully combines the rich natural and cultural heritage with modern tourist offer. Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II visited Lipica and its stud farm in October of 2008 and was presented with a Lipizzaner horse as a gift from the Slovenian people.
