Kranj Weather and Climate Information for Travel Planning

The scenery around the Kranj is quite breathtaking and almost everywhere you look you will see distant, snowcapped mountains and a true Alpine landscape. However, when you are strolling around the medieval Old Town of Kranj, the mountains begin to vanish from view and your eyes are drawn to the architecture and shop windows.

With a temperate climate where each month merges into the next, Kranj is a pleasant city to visit, regardless of the time of year. However, typically Slovenian in character, the weather in Kranj can be rather changeable at times, when any day can be rainy or sunny, warm or cold, gusty or calm – or any combination of all of these conditions.

The summers in Kranj are usually pleasantly warm and can feel quite hot. Although daytime temperatures average between 20°C and 25°C, don’t be fooled into thinking that this time of the year is generally dry, as June, July and August are some of the wettest months in Kranj, with afternoon thunderstorms by no means an uncommon sight. However heavy the rainy showers and storms, the weather rarely spoils the day and there is always plenty of indoor attractions and covered shopping centres that can keep you occupied until the skies clear once again.

When to go – the best time to visit Kranj
One of the warmest cities within the Gorenjska region of Slovenia, Kranj has plenty to offer, regardless of the weather. However, the summer months are packed with outdoor activities, events and concerts, with many locals enjoy the balmy evenings and choose to stay out late, particularly at the end of the week.

The summer climate can be quite random at times, with each day being slightly unpredictable, although you can be sure to expect highs of between 22°C and 30°C during both July and August, Kranj’s hottest months.

Also popular times to visit Kranj, are both the spring and autumn seasons when the climate is still pleasant.

Even in the winter months, the weather in Kranj is rarely extreme, with light overnight frosts in December, January and February, followed by noticeably warmer weather from March onwards. By the time that April has arrived, the days are beginning to get longer and the overall climate and temperatures regularly rise to 15°C on the best days.
