In Spring, Goriska Brda Is Ablaze With Colour With Beautiful White Cherry Blossoms

The colourful spring is in full swing in Goriska Brda, a very picturesque hilly region in western Slovenia, nestled between the Alps and the Mediterranean.

Often described as “The Tuscany of Slovenia”, Goriska Brda is best known for its award-winning wines, seasonal fruits (cherries, peaches, apricots, pears, etc.), cheeses and excellent extra virgin olive oil.

Goriska Brda is beautiful any time of the year, but in spring when the cherry trees are blossoming in the region looks absolutely fantastic.

The Snow Is Melting And Spring Has Finally Arrived To Velika Planina

On the southern rim of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, at an elevation between 1,500 and 1,666 metres, about 30 kilometers north of Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana, lies a unique Alpine settlement of 63 traditional herdsmen’s huts called Velika Planina.

Velika Planina is particularly stunning in the spring. As the snow begins to melt, usually in the beginning of April, the area is covered in beautiful purple flowers. The flowers are spring crocuses (Crocus Vernus), native to the Alps, Pyrenees, and Balkans, and they start to appear in spring as the snow melts, thus making this scene an annual delight to photographers and those who seek a relaxing day out in unspoiled nature.

Lake Bled is possibly the most photographed spot in Slovenia and one of its most beautiful with the medieval Bled Castle sitting high on a rocky outcrop overlooking a tiny, tear-shaped island that is home to a picture-perfect church.

Even though Lake Bled is very picturesque during any season of the year, each of them brings its own beauty. This is how Lake Bled looks in the time between winter and spring, when we wait to watch nature burst to life again.

Spring Is Knocking At The Door Of The Charming Old Fishing Town Of Izola

The mid March is technically still winter on the Slovenian coast, but spring is on the horizon! And spring is the perfect time to explore Izola with cool morning breezes and warm sunny afternoons. You will no doubt return home with a decent tan, however without the scorching heat that dominates the summer months of June, July and August.
