Slovenia has become the first country in the European Union that has declared an end to its coronavirus epidemic, opening its borders to the EU citizens and scrapping a requirement for a 7-day quarantine for arrivals.

Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa explained that ‘Slovenia has the best epidemiological picture in Europe today, which enables us to declare the end of the epidemic.’ While some restrictions will remain in place, including a ban on gatherings of more than five people and 14-day quarantine for some foreigners, all stores, and most services will fully open on May 18. Kindergartens and schools will open partially.

Slovenia has found only 31 new infections in the last 14 days, all of which were linked to known cases or outbreaks. The country has confirmed 1,465 cases of coronavirus and 103 deaths, with a vast majority of deaths connected with the significant clusters at aged-care facilities, in Ljutomer, Smarje Pri Jelsah and Metlika.

  1. Yea and why we did that . Our leaders stole a lot of money from us.
What is happening now.We are protesting again. There are more than 10 000 people on the streets of Ljubljana

  2. Sounds like good news but I wonder if a honest prime minister would have decided the same way… please get rid of him before he ruins your beautiful country.

  3. Don’t know whether to be happy or sad, we will do this epic bike trip as long as the Chinese eating wildlife no more viruses please.

  4. I look forward to returning to Ljubljana Bovec Bled and other beautiful places in Slovenia, a country where people can relax as well as engage in a deeper self-reflection toward real understanding of the struggles of people from other places in the world…

  5. Seems a bit early no? It’s like that one video of a runner who slows down at the end thinking he’s won but in reality 2nd place is sneaking up behind him to take the win.

  6. How does that work.? This is not a Slovenian pandemic, it is World pandemic .
Opening your borders just invites the risk of exposing your citizens to a deadly virus that is highly contagious and has killed over 200.000 people so far. Do you think your decision is rational?

    1. Totally agree with you. It only takes one infected person to step across the border and they will be back to square one. 🙄🙄🙄

  7. Keep in mind, everything is opening up on Monday here, some precautions will be taken, but it will mostly be like before the crisis.

  8. It’s gonna be a race among all the Mediterranean countries to who opens up first its beaches hotels and resorts to collect the limited numbers of people still planning a holiday abroad

  9. Slovenia can declare whatever they want, they are still experiencing new cases and haven’t eased restrictions to discover the inevitable new clusters that come with easing restrictions.

It’s not over for them yet.

      1. It’s not over. The epidemic is supposed to end on last day of May if everything goes ok. And still, the virus isn’t gone and some measures will last for a long time (mask wearing, only small events etc.).

  10. Slovenia did so damn well; I REALLY hope they do not see a giant blow-up in cases for this by accidentally importing a bunch of infected people. :/
