Idrija, Slovenia Hostel Idrija is a nice budget accommodation located only 5 minutes walk from the town centre. The location is great and the view is awesome from the hostel, but be aware there are many steps to climb if you are travelling without a car. The hostel is housed in the renovated building of a former school. It is not modern but it's clean and relatively comfortable. It has many sinks and bathrooms due to being a school in the past. Also, many showers are available. The kitchen is small, but adequate if you don't plan to cook any large meals. The best thing about this hostel is the staff. They are very friendly and welcoming and have some great knowledge on the local area. The free wifi works well in most rooms. The free public parking is available too. All in all, a decent budget hostel for the not so demanding traveler. Location: 09/10 Comfort: Cleanliness: Facilities: Staff & Service: Atmosphere: Value for money: Free WiFi: Free parking: |

Idrija is a lovely small town with a population of just under 6,000 in western Slovenia that lies at the base of a valley, amid green hills and is crossed by the Idrijca river. It has a typical central-European architecture and you can see a strong influence of the Austro-Hungarian empire, especially in the town's main buildings. Today, Idrija is best known for three things: a mercury mine (the reason for Idrija's spot on UNESCO's World Heritage list), intricate locally made lace and zlikrofi (a traditional Slovenian dish from Idrija). |
