About Izola, Slovenia
The old Mediterranean town of Izola is one of the popular towns on the Slovenian Coast. It used to be a thriving fishing town and is now a delightful combination of Italian, Austrian, Croatian and Slovenian culture and architecture. In Izola you can feel the spirit of the Mediterranean at every step of the windy old streets. It is a picture-perfect seaside town that was once a walled island. Once the wall was torn down, the material filled the gap between island and land and created the town as it is known today.
Izola lies on Slovenia’s short strip of Adriatic Coastline, between the towns of Koper and Piran in the utmost southwestern part of Slovenia, close to both the Italian and Croatian borders. It is some 110 kilometres (68 miles) southwest of Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana. The town has about 11,000 residents.
