Bed and breakfasts in Koper that we think are the best and worth staying at

Opting for a bed and breakfast over other types of lodging is a great way to personalize your stay and get to know the locals. Bed and breakfasts feel like you are literally staying in someone’s house, because often you are. People open up B&Bs to make an income or they just enjoy having guests. There are many varieties of B&Bs, in fact, the term has come to describe anything from an upscale property to a room and morning coffee at an unassuming farmhouse.

The advantage of a B&B is that the breakfasts are often home cooked meals that are prepared with love and attention. These meals are included in your room rate and are a great way to start your day.

Bed and breakfasts in Koper that we recommend
MED OLJKAMI B&B 3 stars
Koper, Slovenia
Exterior of Med Oljkami B&B in Koper, Slovenia

Med Oljkami B&B is set in the beautiful hill above Koper on an olive farm. It is an idyllic place to stay among the olive trees and overlooking the Koper bay. Koper's old town is in walking distance, the path is beautiful and takes about half an hour. By car you can reach Koper in about 5 minutes. There are only 3 rooms in the B&B, and these 3 rooms are treated to a very large garden that roll down the hill and provide a lovely backdrop to breakfast on the terrace. The B&B itself looks freshly renovated and everything looks new. The rooms are quite spacious and extremely clean, comfy and offer everything you might need to give you a comfortable stay. The beds are very nice, linen spotless and good quality. The air con is great and vital in the summer months. Each room also has a flat screen TV with several international channels. The free WiFi is excellent and fast. You really notice that a lot of thought went into every aspect of the room. The bathrooms are very modern with good fixtures and fittings and endless hot water. The owners, Karmen and her husband, are very welcoming and helpful in suggesting things to do in the local area. They invite you to roam freely in the olive grove and enjoy the views. You are able to go to the local supermarket, buy food and bring back to eat in the garden and there is even an outdoor fridge with allotted areas for each guest to store food. There is a lovely outside area where you can eat breakfast each day overlooking the olive trees and Koper in the distance. The breakfast is home-made and truly delicious with freshly baked bread, homemade jams, marmalade, honey, pastries, fresh fruit from their garden and local yummies. There is also local wine available to buy if wanted. Free parking is in front of the guesthouse with space for several cars. Overall, not cheap, but a quite extraordinary B&B. Since there are only 3 rooms booking way in advance is highly recommended. You won't be sorry.

VENEZIANA SUITES & SPA 4 stars
Koper, Slovenia
Exterior of Veneziana Suites and Spa in Koper, Slovenia

Veneziana Suites And Spa is a lovely small bed and breakfast style establishment housed in a historic building that dates back to the 14th century. The location is great distance-wise, just a couple blocks from both the Koper Old Town and the beach, but don't expect any nice views as the B&B is next to the industrial zone and there's a graffiti-sprayed, slightly worn-down port warehouse just opposite of the completely renovated Veneziana. This very recent renovation is architecturally beautiful and there is now an elevator in the building which is very useful in case you carry a heavy luggage. The rooms and apartments/suites are of different sizes and shapes, but all are nicely appointed, very modern, airy and extremely clean and have everything you need for a short or longer stay on the Slovenian coast. The beds are luxuriously comfortable which is rare for a bed and breakfast at this price point. The air-con works really well; almost too well at times. The bathrooms are modern and have lovely walk in showers and all the fixtures and fittings are really nice quality. The apartments also have a small kitchen with appliances, so you can go out to the supermarket and prepare your own meal. The breakfast room downstairs is tastefully done with the tables well set out and not cramped. The breakfast is perfectly fine and has everything you would expect though nothing to run to the moon about. There's also a nice spa which includes a sauna, hot tube and relax area. The spa isn't included in the price of accommodation and is bookable only in advance (it's for private use only). The B&B is family run and the owners and staff are just so lovely and friendly throughout, and they are really helpful suggesting activities and tours. The free WiFi works well in the rooms and all public areas. The parking is possible on site and costs €10 per day (2018). All in all a great place to stay in Koper, very clean, modern, and has that "just renovated" appearance.

In recent years, farm stays are growing among a number of travelers looking to reconnect with fresh air, local and organic foods, and a more simple and authentic lifestyle on vacation. Typical rates are similar to a bed and breakfast, and like a bed and breakfast, some offer delicious home cooked meals. Some farm stays also allow guests to participate in the daily activities on the farm if they choose.

KOPER – the largest city on the Slovenian coast
Seaside town of Koper in Slovenia

Koper or Capodistria as it is called in Italian shows two faces to the world: one is a modern, loud and busy industrial part of the city with the only commercial port in Slovenia.
