Hostels are a very popular option for those seeking wallet-friendly accommodations in Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana. Competition between Ljubljana hostels has grown over the past 10 years so the quality has risen considerably. There are now some really great hostels in Ljubljana, find out which are the ones that we recommend and why!

Hostels in Ljubljana that we recommend
HOSTEL TRESOR
Ljubljana, Slovenia

Hostel Tresor is one of the most famous and popular hostels in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana. It is located in the perfect location in the heart of the city, within a short walk's distance to the Dragon Bridge, Triple Bridge, Preseren Square, Castle Funicular to name a few landmarks. The main bus and train station are only a 10 minute walk up the main street. It's very easy to find and easy to come back to if you need to during the day. The hostel is very well managed and has a lot of character - the building was once a bank. The hostel decor is charming with different quotes on the walls and various allusions to its previous life as a bank. There are several dorm rooms with 4-10 beds and also a few private rooms. The dorm rooms are light, spacious and clean, although the plug sockets away from the beds aren't very practical. The beds and pillows are quite comfortable. The rooms on the 3rd and 4th floor have fantastic views of the Ljubljana Castle! If you are a light sleeper, try to avoid the room that looks onto the common room. The shared bathrooms and separate WCs are kept very clean. The showers are great and really powerful and there are plenty of showers on each floor meaning you never have to wait. The towels that are available to borrow are small - not great in a shared bathroom. The hostel also provides several common areas and there's a great atmosphere when it comes to meeting people. There's no proper kitchen, which is a shame given the size of the hostel. The included breakfast is basic but adequate for the rate. The staff are friendly and approachable, always smiling and quick to help - to provide tourist information and to direct to interesting places, to recommend activities and more. The free WiFi is a little slow but reliable. There are also laundry facilities available. The hostel is in a pedestrian area, so, if you arrive by car, we recommend that you park at the train station car park, which is €8 overnight. All in all, this is a really interesting hostel. Aside from the superb location, friendliness of the staff, and cleanliness of the property, the views from the top floors are hard to beat for a budget accommodation. Just keep in mind that this isn't the best place for a good night's sleep.

HOSTEL VRBA
Ljubljana, Slovenia

Hostel Vrba is a fantastic hostel with a very relaxed feel located a pleasant 10 minute walk by the river from the core of Slovenia's capital Ljubljana. The bus and train station are a 20 minute walk away. The property itself is beautiful, well maintained and situated in a nice neighborhood that offers plenty of choices for food, drinks, and chilling. There is a supermarket just a minute walk away and also a nice bakery. The hostel is medium-sized with 4 dorm rooms with 2 to 4 bunk beds and there's also a private room with twin beds. The rooms are well decorated and clean and all beds have a lamp and plug socket. The rooms are not air conditioned so on a warm summer night it's necessary to open the windows or the temperature in the room gets very hot. The bathrooms are of a good standard and always clean and also spacious with good showers and plenty of hot water. The common areas inside the hostel are welcoming and well designed for socialising. There are plenty of areas to sit alone or in groups. They have a nice, well equipped kitchen and a computer for guest to use. The ladies working at the hostel are amazing, so kind and friendly with great info and recommendations. The free WiFi is excellent (which is usually quite rare in hostels). If you have a car, the free parking is a big bonus and convenient, despite being a short 5 minute walk away from the hostel. All in all, it's not often that a hostel has a great location, great staff and is clean and comfortable and Hostel Vrba has all that. It's such a lovely hostel with a very relaxed feel, it isn’t very loud but very nice to meet people.

HOSTEL TIVOLI
Ljubljana, Slovenia

Hostel Tivoli is a really small and intimate hostel in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana with only two dorm rooms and the private double room and that means everyone gets to know each other, drink together, watch TV together. The location is quite central, you can walk to the city center in about 15 minutes through the Tivoli Park, or take a cab for less than €5. The hostel is based on the ground floor of an apartment building. The dorm rooms are really well-kept and comfortable with large lockable lockers and each bed has its own power socket and light. The bed is made for you when you arrive. There is air-conditioning in the rooms which can be a real help in the hot summer. The showers are nice with good water pressure and hot water. The toilets are separated into male and female and there is never a wait for the showers or the toilet. The common area is just two couches and a table in front of the reception desk, but it is great because there is always someone there to talk to. One of the perks of this hostel is the free breakfast where you can have as much toast or cereal as you want. The kitchen facilities are good with free tea and coffee all day. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and always willing to help out with directions and info about Ljubljana and surroundings. The free WiFi works well all over the hostel and the free parking is a big plus too. All in all, a lovely, small, welcoming and really clean hostel with air conditioning in the rooms which is lacking in many of the hostels in Ljubljana.

HOSTEL ZEPPELIN
Ljubljana, Slovenia

Hostel Zeppelin is a friendly hostel brilliantly located only about 5 minutes from the train and bus station and another 5 minutes into the centre of Ljubljana. Everything you could need is in walking distance with a supermarket and 24/7 food place 3 minutes up the road. The hostel is set out nicely, so that you have to pass through the common area and kitchen to get to the reception and your room which means it is super easy to make friends while staying here. The overall friendliness between travelers is lovely and the fact that the staff really make an effort to socialise is a credit to everyone working there. The atmosphere is so nice and laid back that it feels more like staying in a friends house. There are a few dorm rooms with 2-5 bunk beds and also a couple private rooms with double beds and either shared or private bathrooms. The dorm rooms are clean and tidy, with reasonably comfortable bunk beds and big lockers and charging sockets near each bunk bed, but - there is no air condition which is not good in summer at all. The showers are clean but a little silly - they are water saving push action showers, and the water lasts 10 seconds or so before you have to push the button again. The breakfast is basic but decent enough to help you start the day and it's free so who can complain. The communal kitchen is small but well equipped for a hostel. The common room is small too, but friendly, with lots of opportunity to meet other travelers. The staff are really kind, genuine and helpful and full of excellent tips on what to see and do in Ljubljana. The free WiFi works nice and there are desktops in the lobby. There's no parking available on the premises, but you can park your car at the train station car park, which is €8 overnight. All in all, a lovely small hostel that offers all you need while visiting Slovenia's capital Ljubljana. This is not a party hostel, but if you're looking for a nice group to hang out and have a drink or two with and a place to get a decent sleep, this hostel is perfect.

HOSTEL ENGLAND PUB
Ljubljana, Slovenia

Hostel England Pub is a small and relatively new hostel with only 2 dorm rooms with 3 and 4 bunk beds (the hostel accommodation is attached to the pub). This hostel is in a great central location, just by the river and only a stone's throw away from the busy streets of the Ljubljana city centre. It's walking distance to everything - you never are a far walk away from the hostel which is great after a long day exploring the city! The hostel itself is easily accessible, as it is all on the ground floor, with a teeny step at the front. The dorm rooms are immaculate and the bunk beds are nice and there are plenty of outlets near the beds. The lockers in the rooms are so big you can fit an entire hand luggage suitcase plus your other bits and bobs in there and a lock is provided. The sound of traffic and pedestrians walking past are noticeable, but this isn't a big problem as the area doesn't get too noisy. And although the hostel is attached to a pub, with the English Premier League playing, the noise doesn't filter to the sleeping area. The bathrooms are newly renovated and very clean and the showers are amazing, so powerful! Not only is there an antechamber to keep you clothes and towel dry, but it is big enough to actually dry yourself in and get dressed in without contortions your body. A towel is provided free of charge. There's no breakfast served but there is not even reason to provide one, since there are great little cafes and a bakery just outside the front door where you can get anything you want. The staff are so friendly and helpful and will do anything to help you have a good stay, plus explaining everything about the city. There's no common area, so not ideal for meeting other solo travelers. But the hostel is attached to a pub which is great to relax in when you are not in your room and the bar staff are great company. The WiFi is free and works well and fast. The parking is at an extra charge but affordable. All in all, a lovely hostel in a really good central location. There is no common area for guests to hang out and meet other travelers and no breakfast, but the hostel is always clean, the bathrooms are newly renovated and of a high standard, the bunk beds are surprisingly comfortable and everything is only a short walk away. The staff are also super friendly.
