GRAND HOTEL UNION
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Grand Hotel Union in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

Grand Hotel Union is a very famous and popular hotel located in the city centre of Ljubljana. The hotel itself is truly remarkable and full of history. It was built in 1905 and many famous guests stayed here including Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, Bill and Hillary Clinton and the Dalai Lama. At the time it was built it was the largest building in the city. The entire building, both its facade and interior furnishings is designed in the Art Nouveau style. From the moment you step inside the door you just know it's a great place to stay. The decor is breathtaking and the hotel is beautifully maintained. The location of the hotel couldn't be better. It's a 2 minute walk from the Triple Bridge and the Old Town. Central to everything. Although the hotel stands on a main street, part of it is pedestrian so there's very little or no noise. There's a reasonable sized supermarket just at the back of the hotel which is always useful for any items you've forgotten or if you want drinks or snacks. Another real plus is that the hotel is right on the edge of the old town but not in it, so you are able to drive to the hotel and park there. The hotel is really large with 194 rooms and 22 suites. The rooms are clean, tidy, air conditioned, and you can also open the large windows for fresh air. The beds are very comfortable and you can have any kind of pillow that tickles your fancy, including goose down! There's a large TV with several international channels and a minibar/fridge. The bathrooms are good-sized and well appointed with shower, robes, slippers, vanity mirror, tissues, and a good hairdryer (important for the ladies). The pressure on the shower is amazing, the best of all hotels we have ever stayed at. If possible, ask for a room on one of the higher floors, the views are just great. The morning breakfast is delectable and not to be missed! The breakfast buffet includes everything one might expect (both hot and cold). There is a variety of fresh breads, pastries, cold cuts and assorted cheeses, yogurts, fresh fruits, pancakes and oatmeal. There is also sausage, eggs, grilled tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, 7 types of milk, juices, coffee, sparkling wine, smoothies, and lots more. The hotel restaurant is good for evening meals, very competitively priced. The attentiveness by all the staff is second to none. Every single member of staff is courteous, professional but also friendly. There is a wonderful spa and swimming pool on the 9th floor with a Thai theme and stunning views of the city from the small sun terrace. The pool itself is around 10 metres in length so not the biggest but spotlessly clean and offers a refreshing swim after a day walking around town. The complimentary WiFi is also good, fast with good coverage. There is also very good parking facilities in an underground garage if you're arriving by car or motorbike, though the parking is a bit pricey at €20 a night. All in all, a lovely traditional hotel with modern amenities. Very nicely maintained and decorated. The rooms are large, the beds are oh so comfortable, and they offer every amenity you could dream of! Of course, it is not cheap but overall a great hotel, with a traditional atmosphere.

INTERCONTINENTAL LJUBLJANA 5 stars
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of InterContinental Ljubljana in the capital city of Slovenia

InterContinental Ljubljana is a brand new five-star hotel in Slovenia’s capital. The hotel is ideally located with a 10 minute or less stroll to the Preseren Square and the Triple Bridge - the heart of Ljubljana. The main bus and train station are a three-minute walk away. The hotel is modern and sophisticated, with lots of dark wood, marble and Mediterranean stone. A nice floor-to-ceiling windows and clusters of sculptural light bulbs keep things bright, and plush furnishings and cushions in rich teal and mustard add more pops of color. The hotel is the tallest in Ljubljana and has really fantastic views of the Ljubljana Castle and Slovenian Alps from the upper floors, There are 165 en-suite rooms and they come in 4 categories: superior, deluxe, club rooms and suites. Most rooms have full size bathtubs and large walk-in rain showers. Some also have desks. The décor is sleek dark wood, satin and marble. Nespresso machines are in the club rooms and suites, otherwise you have a kettle and complimentary teas and instant coffee. All rooms have a flat screen TV with several international channels and air-conditioning that works extremely well. The finishes are very high end and everything regarding the rooms is high tech and easy to operate. Two rooms are available for guests with disabilities and all the floors have wheelchair access. A 24-hour room service is available in all rooms. The hotel stands on the intersection of two main roads, but the double glazing keeps the noise out so the rooms are quiet. The breakfast buffet and a la carte dining options for breakfast are excellent. The 20th-floor B-Restaurant is managed by Michelin-starred chef Alfredo Russo and has some of the best food and views in Slovenia's capital. The fine-dining menu is a combination of traditional Italian recipes and Slovenian ingredients and is very well priced. There is also a good wine list of local Slovenian wines. The next-door B-Bar has more than 30 different kinds of gin, and serves honey-based cocktails. There's also the wonderful Bloom Lounge cafe in the ground-floor with great pastries, coffee and lovely lighter meals, salads and sandwiches. Every member of the staff (door men, front desk, concierge, club attendants, restaurant waiter/chef/manager, housekeeping, etc.) has professional skills and positive attitudes. They smile at every encounter. The hotel has a wonderful spa with an indoor pool, hot tub, steam room and 2 saunas on the 18th-floor. Daybeds are set up to make the most of the wonderful panoramic views. A great gym and yoga area are located on the same floor. The hotel is also very family-friendly and the children can borrow games and toys from the front desk and there's a special menu for the kids available in the restaurant. The free WiFi is okay at the hotel - not so strong but not too weak either. The valet parking at the hotel is very expensive, but luckily there is parking across the street which is super easy and reasonably priced. In summary, this is Ljubljana’s tallest and most luxurious hotel with great modern rooms, excellent location, very professional staff, amazing views from the upper floors and a fantastic hotel restaurant with excellent Mediterranean style food. There are benefits to the hotel only being a few months old in that everything is modern, new and extremely clean. If you are willing to pay the cost, the hotel is great in every respect.

HOTEL CUBO
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Hotel Cubo in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

Hotel Cubo is considered to be one of the best hotels in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana. The hotel is housed in a 1930s residential building that was converted into a hotel in 2011. The location of the hotel is excellent. It's only 5-10 minute walk to the river and Old Town (the heart of Ljubljana), nearby restaurants, cafes, supermarket and all of the sites you will want to see while in Ljubljana. It's also only about a 15 minute walk from the train and bus stations. The hotel is small, only 26 rooms. Housekeeping does a great job and the standard of cleanliness is second to none throughout the hotel. The rooms are beautiful, very modern look, and very modern amenities. The beds are super comfortable with superior sheets, soft pillows, fluffy duvets, and an extra soft woollen blanket (if needed). Lighting is ample from both overhead and side lights. There are numerous outlets for charging devices. There's excellent A/C, a quality sofa, a large flat screen TV with a good selection of cable channels, a mini bar with all beverages (beers, colas, fruit juices, and water) and a safe. A unique plus in the rooms is a Smart Phone, fully charged for one's personal use both in and out of the hotel. Local and international calls (to 10 countries) are included along with an app including touring Ljubljana and the surroundings. The bathrooms are very modern and spacious with double sinks and plenty of space for personal toiletries. Also, not only does the bathtub contain a shower, but there is also a separate walk-in shower. The toilet/bidet is partitioned off by a sliding door for privacy. Toiletries and towels are upscale. Thick, plush bathrobes and slippers are also included. The staff are super friendly and always ready to offer sightseeing tips, make restaurant reservations, etc. The complimentary breakfast is superb, a full spread of anything and everything you could want to eat from many different choices of pastries, breads, cereals, yogurt, fruit, cheeses, meats, juices and specially made to order coffee, eggs and much more. Top notch and the staff in the restaurant is very kind and helpful. Lunch and dinner in the hotel restaurant are nice as well and very reasonably priced. There is a nice little gym in the basement. The front desk has adapters if you forgot yours, child care can be arranged, pets are permitted for €25 per day. The complimentary WiFi is excellent, really good signal, and fast download. The parking is a breeze, actually, you just stop in front of the hotel and they'll park the car for you - no stress. The daily parking rate is a very reasonable €10 per day. All in all, this is a stunning hotel, 5 stars all the way: the staff, hospitality, hotel location, room condition, breakfast, etc., you can't go wrong at the Cubo.

LESAR HOTEL ANGEL
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Lesar Hotel Angel in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

Lesar Hotel Angel is a quaint and centrally located boutique hotel. The location is perfect, in a quiet pedestrianized street on the edge of the best part of Ljubljana's historic Old Town. It's a minute's walk from a charming street full of excellent restaurants and bars/cafes and lots of small shops. There is a footpath nearby to the castle and Ljubljana's historic Old Town can be reached in 5 minutes. Everything is convenient and near. The hotel itself is a mix of modern and traditional Slovenian. The interior décor is the creation of the owner and the attention to colour, detail and atmosphere all add up to an effect that many hotels may aspire to but few attain. The whole ambiance is one of harmony and peace. Yet it is relaxed and informal. The hotel is housed in a renovated historic building and features 12 rooms and 5 suites. The architecture of the old building means that each room is individual in layout. But this also means that all rooms are accessed by stairs because there is no elevator. The rooms are spotlessly clean, bright and airy with everything you could want. The beds are luxurious and very comfortable, the linens are high quality, white duvets and fluffy towels. There is A/C and all fittings, furnishings and decoration are in perfect, near-new condition. There's no traffic noise at all, however the nearby church clock strikes loudly on the hour and every quarter from 7 am until 10 pm. The bathrooms are spacious, modern and well stocked. Bathrobes are supplied as well as Molton Brown shampoos, body wash, etc. Lovely shower - lots of hot water and powerful - not one of those awful dribbly affairs! And the bathroom floor is heated which is a really nice touch. If you are travelling in the colder months, ask for a room with a fireplace. It adds to making one feel at home and toasty-warm. The rooms are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors so bear in mind that there are stairs to climb. The breakfast is served in the large dining room overlooking the square at the front of the building. The choice at breakfast is very good with plenty of meat, cheese, eggs, lovely breads, fresh fruit, smoked fish, yogurt, and anything else you might imagine, including a delicious home made butter. The large range of teas is amazing but the coffee choice may be the only weak link. The hotel has a small bar next to the dining room but does not provide any meals other than breakfast. There are around 20 restaurants within a 5 minute stroll of the hotel many of which are really excellent. The staff at the hotel are kind, helpful, attentive and all speak excellent English (and several other languages too). They are discrete and are there if you need them but are certainly not 'in your face'. We really like this quiet, respectful approach. It is evident that the owner has created a really special hotel and that he and the rest of the staff really care about customer satisfaction. There is a little garden at the back of the hotel where you can sit and relax and enjoy a drink in the sunshine. The hotel's WiFi works very well. No extra cost as some hotels try and do and it is so strong that it actually reaches to a nearby cafe. The hotel is in a pedestrian area so please don't expect to arrive at the front door by car/taxi/bus. However it is less than a minute's easy walk from vehicle access. If you have a car then you will need to reserve a space in advance, as there are only a few spaces which are located on a road along the river, about a 5 minute walk away from the hotel. You will need to park just by the pedestrianised zone and phone the hotel who will then bring you a card to put in your car, and will help you carry your luggage. Overall, an excellent boutique hotel with real character and charm. It is a small establishment but exhibits all the characteristics of its four-star rating. Just be sure to book the hotel early as (unsurprisingly) occupancy rates are high!

G DESIGN HOTEL
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of G Design Hotel in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

G Design Hotel is a small but very modern and contemporary family run hotel on the outskirts of Ljubljana. It is situated in a beautiful location on the edge of a forest surrounded by meadows, about 5 kilometres from the city center, and is easy to get to by car from the main highway, as well as from downtown Ljubljana. It is very prominent at the freeway exit, and you can't miss the sign. If you are travelling by car and using the hotel as a base to travel to other parts of Slovenia, this is a perfect location as it is close to main motorway junctions and has free parking, and it is only a 30 minute drive to Lake Bled, and a 25 minute drive to Postojna Caves. The hotel is still new - it opened its doors in 2007 and was completely rebuilt and re-opened in early summer 2012. From the outside, the hotel doesn't look that great, but from the inside it's simply stunning - as they say, never judge a book by its cover. Upon first entering the hotel, you are struck with how trendy and modern the hotel is. Obviously a lot of thought went into the design of everything in this unique hotel. It is also fairly small, having only 22 rooms. The hotel has an elevator to the upper floors. The rooms are on the large size and spotless with comfortable beds, automated blinds, upholstered chairs and table, great TV and openable windows. The closets are roomy and the safe is useful. The fridge is also larger than we have seen in hotels in Slovenia. Luggage stand in the room is large enough to accommodate two suitcases, which is both unusual and well appreciated. Although the design is quite striking, it does lead to some practical problems - the lighting over the bed is bright but there is no ability to provide light to just one person in the bed, so either you have a very bright light covering the entire pillow area of the bed, or you have the lights off. Separate lights for each side would have been a nice touch. The bathroom has walk-in shower and touch technology in bathroom lighting. The breakfast is superb. A large selection of cold meats, cheese, cereals, fruits, yoghurt, eggs cooked to your liking, lovely pastries, and the staff will make espresso, latte, cappuccino, tea, etc. upon request. Coffee is particularly good. The breakfast is in the hotel itself, but lunch and dinners are in the restaurant affiliated to the hotel, which is just across the car park. The restaurant serves really good food and is excellent value for money. The service is absolutely phenomenal and all of the staff are extremely friendly, warm and helpful. They go out of their way to provide information and answers to questions, make reservations for you, provide advice regarding local travel and sights to see. There is free WiFi in the hotel which works in the rooms (but is not very strong), but is perfect in the common areas of the hotel. The parking is free and easy and a big plus - it's always so much easier to pull into a nice large parking lot and head directly for the lobby. In summary, very modern, spotlessly clean, amazing staff, spacious rooms, relaxed atmosphere but elegant surroundings, with great food and amazing coffee. Perfect for couples or families and everyone else who want to use the hotel as a base to explore Slovenia and travel to other parts of the country.

ADORA HOTEL
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Adora Hotel in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

Adora Hotel is a charming, small, family-run boutique hotel set just on the edge of Ljubljana's Old Town, literally just around the corner from the river and about five minutes walk from the Three Bridges area and the Preseren Square, the heart of Ljubljana where most of the restaurants, cafes and bars are, The location is perfect for sightseeing as it is within easy walking distance to most of the main tourist attractions in Ljubljana. There's no traffic noise at all, however there is a lovely church just opposite the hotel and you will hear the church bells from every room - they're pretty loud but it's a joy to hear those bells chime out a few times a day - it's a beautiful, sonorous sound and a real reflection of the city's traditions and history. The hotel is housed in a beautifully renovated old townhouse and offers 10 modern rooms. The rooms show a lot of attention to detail, as befits a boutique hotel. They are spotlessly clean, light and airy with a very comfortable bed, air con, safe, flat screen TV with several international channels and plenty of sockets for re-charging. There isn't tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms but it is available in the dining room. The bathrooms are clean and quite good sized, with a lovely rain head shower and attention to both style and practicality. A really nice toiletries and large, fluffy towels are provided. The breakfast each morning is appetisingly laid out for guests in an airy room overlooking the little garden. It is very impressive, quite a feast with something for every taste - a good variety of fruit, cereals and yoghurt, eggs cooked to order, cold meats and cheeses, assorted fresh breads and croissants with honey and jam plus, of course, a wide range of teas, coffee and hot chocolate too. The staff are all pleasant, efficient and very helpful with restaurant suggestions and reservations and information about what to see and how to get there. As there are only 10 rooms, you get an individual service. The free WiFi is great. You will get a password on check in and the WiFi signal is strong and fast. If you have a car, parking is across the road, behind a barrier - you have to park nearby and ask at reception for the control for the barrier. It's a €9 charge and you will need to reserve a space in advance. However, for city centre overnight parking, it's a good deal. All in all, this is a lovely, small, personal hotel simply and beautifully furnished, immaculately clean and excellently situated just inside the pedestrian area of the Ljubljana old town, with many tourist sights and restaurants nearby. It's perfect for those who like to choose a converted hotel over a modern one.

GRAND HOTEL UNION BUSINESS
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Grand Hotel Union Business in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

Grand Hotel Union Business is really just the new wing of the Grand Union Hotel. It's situated in the heart of Ljubljana, only 100 meters from the main Preseren square. This gives a brilliant location to explore Ljubljana and soak in the vibe and atmosphere of the city which surrounds you. There are 133 rooms and 13 suites in the hotel. The rooms are lovely and spacious as well as spotless. The beds are comfortable and if you get a room with a balcony you can enjoy remarkable views to the Ljubljana Castle. Being a business hotel, there is a large desk with an available outlet at counter level to plug in your laptop and phone, with an additional available outlet below the desk. There are four wide drawers for your clothes, plus two wardrobes with a couple of cubby shelves for shoes, and a small safe for storing your valuables. The rooms are bright and airy and there is also a very welcome amount of light in the room, from bedside lamps to wall lights and desk lamp. The bathrooms are big with massive mirror and vanity unit and good quality toiletries and lovely towels. A decent size bath and shower combo. The main room decor and fittings are superb, but the bathrooms may need some modernisation in the coming years to keep up with the growing competition. The staff in the hotel are helpful and friendly and nothing is too much bother. The included buffet breakfast is in a large room with a bountiful selection that runs the gamut from cereal you can mill/grind yourself, to scrambled eggs, Carneolian sausage, bacon, yogurt, smoothies, fresh fruit, grilled vegetables, cold cuts, cheeses, breads, dry cereal, American pancakes, crepes, raw vegetables, juices, pretty much something for everybody. The hotel restaurant is superb and serves delicious and varied meals throughout the day and evening and has many wines to try. The food is locally sourced, well presented and the restaurant staff polite and helpful and make you feel special. The hotel has a spa on the 8th floor which is lovely. The indoor pool at the spa is large enough for a decent swim, clean, nice warm water, and with good opening times. The hotel also has a reasonably sized gym on the 1st floor (right above the reception) and it's opened 24 hours a day. The WiFi is incredibly strong and fast. The underground parking at a reasonable rate is available too. Another benefit is that the Avis car rental office is located in the hotel, so you can conveniently pick up and return your rental car. All in all, the hotel is excellent - while designed for business people, it is really good for anyone. Don't be put off by the somewhat grim exterior; the hotel is very comfortable, relatively stylish and contemporary inside and has everything you need after a long day at the office - a very nice pool on the top floor with views over the city, a cozy and relaxing spa, a nice gym and a superb restaurant.

HOTEL NOX
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Hotel Nox in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

Hotel Nox is a very unique boutique hotel built in 2013. It is located in a district called Sentvid on the northern edge of Ljubljana. To reach the hotel takes 10-15 minutes drive from the airport. And it takes about 15 minutes to get from the hotel to the city center by bus. There is a bus stop literally on the hotel's doorstep. The large Lidl supermarket is just across from the hotel and is great for picking up snacks and supplies. The hotel itself is very modern and really cool and it was definitely build to stand out. The hotel's unique factor is that every single room has a different theme and design. There are 24 rooms and a suite in the hotel. The rooms are beautifully laid out, spacious with top notch fittings and fixtures. The beds are large and extra comfortable and the bed sheets are high quality. The furniture is of superb quality. Even the toilet paper is great quality! The whole place is spotlessly clean, and extremely modern. The rooms are very well insulated and despite being next to the road, they are quiet. Air-conditioning is quiet and efficient and the large flat screen TV offers a wide range of international channels. The minibar in the room is free to use and includes 2 water bottles, 2 coca cola cans and 2 beers. The bathrooms are on the large side and very modern and stylish with a nice large shower. The breakfast is served between 7 and 11 am. The breakfast selection is good and everything is high quality and tasty. For hot food, there is a selection of cooked eggs, roasted vegetables and varieties of sausage. There are also cold cuts of meat, fish and cheese. You can also find fresh bread loaves/rolls, cereals, yoghurt, a great selection of teas, and lots of sweet treats, including croissants, fruit, dessert pots and cake. Overall a superb balance of choices on offer. The breakfast room is a really inviting space and is really pleasant to eat in first thing in the morning. The staff that work in the hotel are fantastic. Every member of staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Almost all of them speak really great English too so communicating is never an issue. There is also a lovely bar so you can have a drink, but no restaurant for dinner, The WiFi works great everywhere in the hotel. If you have a car, there is parking on the property. In summary, this is a great gem of a hotel. It's incredibly clean, professional but warm and welcoming at the same time and each room has its own personality and charm. The location is fairly close to the airport and has easy transport access to the city center.

BEST WESTERN PREMIER HOTEL SLON
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Best Western Premier Hotel Slon in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

Best Western Premier Hotel Slon is a very famous hotel in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana with a 465-year history. The word 'slon' means 'elephant' in Slovenian and is so named because an early guest arrived with an elephant. In the mid-1500s, the Archduke of Austria married Mary of Spain and was about to become Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. On his way from Spain, he brought an elephant with him when he stayed at an inn in Ljubljana. That inn was located where the Hotel Slon was built in the 1930s and still stands today. Today, the Slon hotel is part of the Best Western Premier group and occupies a superb location on the corner of a pedestrian street and a limited vehicular access road called Slovenska Cesta, just a 2-minute walk to the Ljubljana city center and a similar walk to the tram for the castle. You can easily walk to the Three Bridges, the Open Market, Tivoli Park, the post office, the tourist information center and the bus and train stations. Many restaurants and shops (including a Spar supermarket) are within easy walking distance. The airport is located 25 minutes from the hotel. The hotel offers 170 rooms in various categories spread across five floors. The street level ground floor contains the lobby, lounge, and bar. The superior deluxe category rooms have been recently renovated, other categories will follow soon. The bathrooms have large towels and the shower has plenty of hot water, although it's a bit small. Hotel amenities include the wonderful Slon 1552 restaurant/bar, gym, sauna, steam room, television with many international channels, and complimentary Wi-Fi that works excellent. The bright and spacious (and outdatedly elegant) breakfast room offers a large buffet from 6:00 am to 11:00 am daily that includes fruit, breads, pastries, desserts, cold meats and cheeses, cereal, hot and cold entrees, freshly-squeezed juices and smoothies, teas and fancy coffees. The staff are very accommodating and often go beyond the call of duty to ensure that your needs are met. From the doorman, desk staff, maid service and breakfast there is always someone ready to help with anything! It's a bit tricky to get to the hotel with a car, until you realise that the 'pedestrian only' road can also be used by guests of the hotel, but the staff will park the car for you afterwards (there is a fee for parking overnight) but for a central hotel this is to be expected. All in all, a decent option if you are planning to stay in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana, but when renovations are complete, the hotel will be one of the premier lodgings in the city.

RADISSON BLU PLAZA HOTEL LJUBLJANA
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Ljubljana in the capital of Slovenia

Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Ljubljana is still a relatively new hotel built in 2012. It is part of the Radisson Blu chain of hotels, a fast growing hotel chain in Europe, Middle East and Africa. The hotel is hard to miss with it's unique building design. It's situated on the edge of the BTC City area, which is the business, commercial and entertainment center of Ljubljana. There are bowling alleys, an indoor carting, tennis courts, a multiplex movie theater, a large mall and tons of shopping - definitely a great location for busy families with something for everyone. The hotel has an association with the Atlantis water park which is a 5 minute walk away. There are a dozen pools here, and everything is clean and well maintained and the water temperature is 29 degrees Celsius and thus very pleasant to swim in. The center of Ljubljana is 5 km away (about a 5-10 minute drive). The rooms are airy and spacious and quite luxurious with everything you could need, comfortable beds and pillows, just superb. The A/C works perfectly, which is important on hot summer days in Slovenia's capital. The bathrooms are very large by hotel standards, tastefully decorated and with lovely powerful shower and nice quality complimentary toiletries. The hallways are motion sensor lighted. The breakfast buffet is incredible with tons of hot and cold items catering to all tastes – meats and cheeses, pastries, bacon and eggs, cereals, pancakes, fruit along with different juices, tea and coffee. The food in the hotel restaurant is excellent and nicely presented, but the menu is a little limited. All the staff are really helpful, efficient and friendly. They deal with any queries and offer advice about places to go and see. There is a nice bar area in reception which does really good snacks and delicious coffee. The WiFi signal is good but unfortunately quite slow connection. The hotel has a parking garage available at additional charge, however you might able to catch a free parking spot in the commercial area at the back of the hotel. FOUR POINTS BY SHERATON LJUBLJANA MONS
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Four Points by Sheraton Ljubljana Mons in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

Four Points by Sheraton Ljubljana Mons is well known as Slovenia's first designer hotel that opened its doors in 2004. It is now part of the Starwood Hotels & Resorts group, one of the world's biggest hotel chains with more than 1100 hotels in over 100 countries. The hotel is located almost in the middle of Slovenia and about a few kilometers from the center of Ljubljana. It is beside a main highway and can be used as a great base to travel to other parts of Slovenia like Lake Bled, Postojna Caves, Slovenian coast or the thermal areas in the east of the country. The hotel also offers a free shuttle to the city centre of Ljubljana every hour, so it is very convenient. The hotel is medium sized and has 114 rooms and 3 suites. It's spacious and modern in design and spotlessly clean throughout. The lobby and entrance area are particularly impressive. The rooms are clean, comfortable, modern and well maintained. The beds are superb, the mattresses offer the right balance between comfort and support for a refreshing night's sleep. The A/C works well, the TV has many international channels and the lights are easy-to-operate. If possible try to choose a room facing the forest far from the motorway, and not facing the parking. The bathrooms are spacious with all the soap and shampoo dispenser at the right places - you don’t have to come out of shower cubicle for shower gel. The breakfast offers a generous range of hot and cold food and drinks. The chef will cook some egg and meat dishes to your order. There is hearty bacon and eggs as well as fruit and pastries. Dinner in the hotel restaurant consists of mostly traditional Slovenian meat and fish, and plenty of salads are on offer. A range of Slovenian wines and tasty local draught beers and international alcohol is available as well as fruit juice. The bar serves excellent burgers on a delicious rye bun. All the staff are friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and always ready to help and their English is perfect. There's a nice gym in the hotel and a small sauna. The free WiFi connection is very strong. There is also plenty of free parking. All in all, this is a great hotel if you looking for a 'quieter' stay while you tour Slovenia.

AUSTRIA TREND HOTEL LJUBLJANA
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Austria Trend Hotel Ljubljana in the capital of Slovenia

Austria Trend Hotel Ljubljana is located on the outskirts of Ljubljana, about 4 kilometres out of the city centre with a convenient bus stop just outside the door of the hotel that makes getting to Ljubljana's Old Town easy without having to be right in the centre of everything. The hotel is quite new and in quite good shape. It's in an imposing modern building with a partial glass facade and has 214 rooms and 12 suites. The rooms are air-conditioned, quite modern and spacious and most of the rooms have separate living spaces. Each room has a large TV with lots of channels in many languages, comfortable beds, elegant linens, extra pillows, carpets, plenty of room for bags and suitcases and facilities to make tea and coffee. Although the hotel is on a main road there is no traffic noise. The bathrooms are spacious too, with a nice powerful shower. The toilets are separated from the bathroom, which is great. The breakfast is excellent - lots of choice in a self serve buffet including fresh fruits, yogurt, breads and cakes, eggs, sausages, bacon, vegetables, mushrooms, cold meats, cheeses and much more. Lovely choice of teas, coffees and fruit juices is available too. The hotel has two good restaurants, Morgenstund' (where the complimentary buffet breakfast is) and Marco Polo. There is also a sports bar in the hotel that sells relatively cheap pints of beer and a good list of cocktails which are priced very reasonably too. The hotel is very popular amongst athletes and there is a good gym with plenty of equipment. The hotel is also offering spa procedures, sauna, steam bath and massages, The staff are very attentive and friendly and all speak English and German very well. The free Wi-Fi is super fast and works excellent throughout the hotel. There is a small parking in front of the hotel and there's also an underground garage with a direct access to the hotel. Reservation is needed and it is €10 per night, but it's worth it. All in all, this is a very well run and reasonably priced upscale hotel and is recommended for a business or leisure stay in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana.

HOTEL LEV
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Hotel Lev in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

Hotel Lev is a business/conference hotel in a central location of Ljubljana. It was opened in 1964 and it's about a 5-10 minute walk from the old town and the Three Bridges. It's also about a 10-12 minute walk from the main bus station and train station. Ljubljana definitely isn't a huge capital city so it's perfectly easy to walk everywhere. From the outside the building is nothing special, but the rooms are nicely decorated and the hotel has everything the leisure or business traveler would require. There are 173 rooms in the hotel and they are all a good size and furniture is high quality though it's beginning to look slightly dated and could do with some redecoration. The beds are very comfortable with good quality linen and air-con works very well. The TV has a good selection of international channels. The bathrooms are quite small, but well appointed. The shower is over the bath so you have to climb into the bath to have a shower, The included breakfast is good and will not disappoint, plenty of food options including a fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, eggs, cold meats, cheeses, fresh breads, plus a range of teas, coffee and juices. The hotel restaurant is excellent, great food, the wine is rather expensive though. The hotel restaurant is great, with competitive prices and a good array of choices in a menu which combines traditional Slovenian and Mediterranean meals. The stuff is very kind and is ready to help you at any time and almost any request. The hotel bar is on the small size but that isn't a big problem since there are loads nearby. The hotel also has a gym with decent equipment and also a casino for those that like to try their luck, The hotel was previously 5 star, but is now 4 star and that definitely feels right. Overall, a good option in Ljubljana.

HOTEL MRAK
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Hotel Mrak in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

Hotel Mrak is a typical, family run 3 star hotel located within 5-10 minutes walk of Ljubljana city centre, also about 5 minutes from the river, where there are many excellent bars, cafes and eateries. Very central, though, well, Ljubljana itself isn't huge. It is very easy to find, in a little street just off Slovenska Cesta, a major road passing through the centre of Ljubljana. The building is almost a century old, but well maintained. The hotel is fairly small and has 34 rooms. They are a little on the small side, but still relatively comfortable and very clean. This isn't a particularly posh or sparkling new establishment and the carpets are a tad faded, and most fixtures in the rooms show a bit of wear. But nevertheless, the presentation is clean and simple, the rooms nice and they have a flat screen TV, a large openable window looking out over the street, and a modern air-conditioner, which is great for a cool-down after a day of sightseeing or work. The beds are fine, and there are extra pillows. If you are a light sleeper then there is sometimes a little noise from the street below - just ask the reception for a quiet room, they are helpful. The bathrooms are small but clean, and everything works and the shower is wonderful. The included breakfast is delightful and the breakfast room is light and pleasant. There is an excellent selection of food with hot choices of sausage, bacon and scrambled egg, and Slovenian choices of pancakes, vegetables and dumplings. The cold selection includes a decent selection of cold meats and cheeses, fresh bread, a good selection of cereals, pasta salad, fruit, and more. There is plenty of choices to drink too. They have both fresh filter coffee and a coffee machine on offer, with both pre-warmed espresso and lungo cups, which is really nice. The staff is conscientious and helpful in every possible way. The free WiFi works without any issues throughout the hotel. If you have a car, there is a large pay parking lot only a block away. In summary, this is a lovely small hotel with a great location, very friendly and helpful staff and comfortable beds. The rooms look a bit tired but they are scrupulously clean and very comfortable.

BIROKRAT HOTEL
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Birokrat Hotel in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

Birokrat Hotel is still a relatively new contemporary hotel which opened in 2010. It is located about 10 minutes from the Ljubljana city centre. Although a little way out of the town, the hotel has a €5 deal with a local taxi service, to transport you to the city centre and the cabs are fast and clean. The exterior of the hotel is nothing to write home about, but the interior is smartly furnished and very clean. The hotel has 29 rooms and 4 suites. The rooms are large, modern and very comfortable, with all the modern conveniences one might expect. The rooms are really nicely decorated and there's plenty of space, huge wardrobe, big flat screen TV with a good number of international channels, electric blinds, big windows and the air con system works well. The beds are lovely, and if possible try to get a room at the back of the hotel, because the rooms on the front facing the traffic are just a little noisy. The bathroom is very clean with plenty of towels and the shower is excellent with great pressure. The staff are very friendly and very helpful in providing information about Ljubljana. The lobby also has a large selection of tourist information. The included breakfast is delicious with heaps of food choices. Some of the options are bread, croissants, pastries, fruit, yoghurt, sliced cold meats, cheese, cereal, muesli, omelette and sausages. Drink options included fruit juice, tea and coffee. The coffee comes from a help-yourself machine, but it ground the beans freshly for each cup, and the coffee produced is excellent. The staff are constantly on the go cleaning tables and re-stocking the buffet. This means that whatever time you arrive for breakfast you find a clean table and every breakfast item available. It's amazing how many hotels miss this element of their service. There's no on-site restaurant for lunch or dinner, but there are some decent dining options nearby. The hotel provides free WIFI and the download speed is about 20 Mbps, so great for Skyping. There is also free car parking at the side of the hotel and around the back. Combining good service and spacious modern rooms, the Birokrat is a good choice to stay in Ljubljana.

ALLEGRO HOTEL
Ljubljana, Slovenia
Exterior of Allegro Hotel in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia

Allegro Hotel is a lovely small boutique hotel centrally located at the edge of the Ljubljana Old Town. The location is really excellent, on a quiet pedestrian only street just a few minutes stroll from the town's famous Triple Bridge area and the main Preseren Square, and also well placed to reach the Ljubljana Castle on foot where you'll find some fantastic views. There are several bars and restaurants within walking distance, many overlooking the Ljubljanica river which is an idyllic setting. The hotel has 17 rooms and one suite. It is in a historic building that dates back to the late 17th century, which means no lift and some quirky stairs (which might not be ideal for senior travelers and people with mobility issues) but it has great character. The lobby area is very comfortable and more like sitting in your own living room. There are lots of antique furniture throughout the hotel and a lovely little courtyard out the back which is very quaint. The rooms are beautifully decorated and have everything expected from a four star hotel. There's plenty of storage, a safe, a refrigerator, a flat screen TV with many international channels, clock, and even tea and coffee making facilities. There are dressing robes and slippers provided, and the bathroom has a hairdryer. The shower is a good temperature and good pressure. The breakfast is included in the room rate and served between 8 am and 10 am in a vaulted dining room in the cellar. It's plentiful with cold meats, cheeses, eggs, breads and croissants, yoghurt, pastries, and more. Coffee and all sorts of teas and juices also. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff each of whom are a great asset to this hotel. The hotel also has some chairs and tables outside on the sidewalk and it's so enjoyable to sit there and drink some fine wine. The WiFi is good with a strong signal. If you are arriving by car you will need to reserve one of the hotel's parking spaces in a nearby street, about a 5 minute walk away from the hotel. All in all, a lovely small hotel with beautiful decor, comfortable rooms, good breakfasts, friendly staff and excellent WiFi coverage.
