The area is safe, so walking along the river at night isn't a problem. There are grocery stores, restaurants (Novi svet pri Stolnici and Gostilna Zlati Lev), bars/cafes all within walking distance.  Maribor, Slovenia  Gozdna Villa Mari is a hotel with self-catering apartments located in a beautiful peaceful area directly at the Pohorje ski slopes next to the cable car station and at a distance of about 10 minutes drive to the center of Maribor. Out of the skiing season the place is fantastic for walking, hiking, cycling and mountain biking. The apartments are well equipped, spacious and modern, but most importantly very well insulated - it is rare to hear a noise from an adjacent apartment, even when the hotel is busy, There are wonderful views over the town in front and mountains behind. The staff are friendly and always willing to help. There's also a nice wellness centre with a sauna, jacuzzi tub and everything you need to relax (it costs €10 per person for 2 hours).
