About The Soca River

The Soca River is a 138-kilometre long river that starts its journey in the Trenta valley in the heart of the Triglav National Park in northwestern Slovenia and eventually flows into the Adriatic Sea in northeastern Italy. With its crystal clear, emerald-aquamarine water, it is considered as one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe.

The river attracts nature lovers, photographers and water sports enthusiasts from all over the world and it truly is one of the most amazing creations that nature has to offer. No words can do this extraordinary river justice so we’ll leave it up to the pictures to do the talking.

The Great Soca Gorge is one of the most stunning natural wonders in the Triglav Natural Park. The gorge is 750 meters long, 15 meters deep and at its narrowest section less than two meters wide. The Solkan Bridge over the Soca River near the city of Nova Gorica was built in the beginning of the 20th century, between 1900 and 1905, and officially opened in 1906. Soca is also known for a very rare species of fish that lives in its crystal-clear waters – the marble trout, known also as the Soca trout. Endemic to the Adriatic watershed, the marble trout can only be found in a few rivers that flow into the Adriatic Sea, and Soca is one of its most important habitats.
