Slovenia currently has 1439 confirmed Covid-19 cases, the same number as yesterday, according to the National Institute of Public Health website — marking the first day without any new reported cases since March 3rd.

Slovenia’s number of new cases each day has been on a decline for several weeks. The number of active cases fell below 250 for the first time since March 15th. The number of hospitalized coronavirus patients has fell under 60 again and the number of coronavirus patients in intensive care units remains quite low at 20. To date, the virus has killed 96 in Slovenia, with a vast majority of deaths connected with the significant clusters at aged-care facilities, in Ljutomer, Smarje Pri Jelsah and Metlika.

  1. Great news indeed, but then again they started “lockdown ” much sooner than we did, which put them in a much better position. Heard from friends that tourism will start again beginning of June, some open air cafes and bars are set to open from tomorrow, with social distancing still applying. 😊😊❤❤

  2. There are more and more examples proving that slowing this dramatically is doable. Many Asian countries have very high population density yet some manage to get to 0 or close to 0 domestic cases now. It’s not democracy vs autocracy, Government competency plays a role, though biggest factor is by far public awareness. Those that have to use the 60-70% of population infected before controlling the virus method will face far higher health and probably much worse economic consequences.

    1. That’s interesting, a lot of people here in Slovenia believe that the current government took up very aggressive and over the top precautions against this pandemic. That is probably because we weren’t hit as hard as other places and now people think they over-exaggerated.

  3. Another week, another country with no new cases. Meanwhile in the US, free dumb loving people are out and about like nothing happens. The US will never get out of his covid-19 hell.

  4. Great news. I heard some say it is no big deal as Slovenia is very small and there are regions that size with no cases around Europe, but that’s BS, cause Slovenia is next to hard hit areas of Italy, and has many ties with Italy. So it’s not just any region. All experts were predicting Slovenia to get overwhelmed fast once Northern Italy flared, but they managed to prove the experts wrong. Great job Slovenia!

  5. This is why Slovenia and New Zealand are two of the best countries on earth. If there is a problem they always manage to get through it.

  6. Keep seeing great news from Slovenia, you seem to be doing an exceptional job. Anyone care to explain how exactly you achieved this?

  7. Reading about these success stories and everything they did just makes our (US) situation that much more infuriating. Slovenia didn’t have people rejecting their scientists and purposely spreading the virus?

    1. Yes we are a smaller population and more spread out, but I believe our relative success is because of good crisis management and community minded spirit. Our people understand the need to accept individual loss for community gain.

  8. Why is Slovenia doing so much better than the USA for example? Any thoughts? By just reading headlines it seems to be that the countries with the most honest leadership are doing better. This seems too simple though?

  9. I’m ignorant to how other countries handled corona. What did Slovenia do to achieve such a low number of cases?

    1. Treated at as a pandemic before it was officially declared one, with all that this entails.

    2. We very early closed our borders. We have put in restrictions so that people can’t gather in groups. The closing of borders early was the one main thing that helped keep things under control.

      1. Also – testing testing testing and rigorous contact tracing. They are the three ingredients: testing, contact tracing and social distancing. That’s actually all it takes.

    3. There were systems in place (e.g. socialised medicine, welfare) long before corona hit the fan that have allowed the government to take appropriate measures. As an American living in Slovenia it’s really quite amazing to see these systems at work.

  10. Great news! Way to go Slovenia! I’m in Oklahoma and they just opened bowling alleys, tattoo parlors, nail/hair salons, and other “essential” places. It seems we are being purposely exposed to create herd immunity, even though we know virtually nothing about how this virus acts or mutated. Scary stuff. Our leader is an idiot and basically I believe he opened things up so he can claim it’s the citizens fault the number of deaths is so high. Way to cover up his screw up by not closing things earlier. Sigh. I think the damage is already done. Too many people already have it to count and so hence the opening of “essential” business that spreads the virus. I’m staying home if I’m the last person to catch this here. Ugh.

  11. I am so jealous of you guys, I hope this holds true for other countries around the world as well.
