Lipica Golf Course

Lipica is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Slovenia on account of its stud farm with beautiful white Lipizzan horses that has flourished tremendously since its conception over 400 years ago. On February 15th, 1989, the Lipica Golf Club was founded and was only the second golf club in Slovenia. Since then, Lipica also offers a lovely 9-hole golf course built according to the designs of famed golf architect Donald Harradine. It’s one of only the two golf courses in Slovenia that’s officially open 365 days a year, as it has a warm Mediterranean climate, but in winter the weather conditions often change very quickly and don’t allow a full round of golf on the course.

The Lipica Golf Course has nine holes that are both enjoyable for novice golfers and challenging for skilled ones. The course stretches out to 3,174 metres (3,471 yards) which is quite long for a par 36. The holes range in length from 141 metres (third hole) to 503 metres (fourth hole). The course has quite narrow fairways requiring accurate tee shots. The greens are fast and well defended by strategically placed sand bunkers. Although there are no water hazards, the course is heavily wooded and abounds with sand bunkers, which are well placed to come into play for short and long hitters alike. Shade-giving trees, including dozens of years old lime and oak trees, are characteristic for the course. The layout of the course is flat and not difficult.
