PENZION PRI ZABARJU Ljubljana, Slovenia Penzion Pri Zabarju is a family run guest house located on the south side of Slovenia's capital Ljubljana. On the map it seems a bit out of town but it's only a 10 minute bus ride away (the bus station is a 5 minute walk from the guesthouse) and very easy to get into the city centre. It started as a restaurant and the owners converted the upstairs into bedrooms in 2013. The rooms are spacious and very clean with comfortable beds. Perhaps fussy people would complain that the rooms are a little basic, especially if you compare them with 4-stars hotels, but they have absolutely everything one needs for comfortable stay. The bathrooms are large and modern with plenty of light. The staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. The breakfast is a varied buffet with everything one might expect including cold meats, cheese, cereal, fruit, eggs, omelettes and more. On-site, they have a restaurant with a superb local reputation (offering mostly local dishes beautifully presented, at great value), a cake shop with delicious homemade cakes, an ice cream shop and a cafe bar selling beers and cappuccinos. All these facilities surround a charming courtyard. The free WIFI is very stable and fast (15 Mbps) and the free parking is a bonus too. All in all, if you are looking for a beautiful, traditional, calm and well equipped place to stay while visiting Slovenia's capital Ljubljana, this guesthouse is a fine choice. PENZION KMECKI HRAM Ljubljana, Slovenia Penzion Kmecki Hram is a lovely guest house located in the part of Ljubljana called Tomacevo, 5 km from Ljubljana's Old Town. It's right next to a bus stop for easy travel into the city centre and a supermarket is 100 metres away. The building is relatively new and the whole place is spotlessly clean. The rooms are on the small side, but still comfortable and with all facilities inside. The beds are good quality and are very comfortable. The bathrooms are modern with a walk in shower which has very good water pressure. The staff (two brothers) are very friendly, nice and willing to help in every way possible. The buffet style breakfast is good with a choice of fresh fruit as well as the usual breads, cheese and cold meats, cereals, eggs, yoghurt, etc. The restaurant on-site is excellent, serving mostly Slovenian dishes but also other food as well. The free WiFi works well and has good bandwidth. There is also plenty of parking space on the premises if you need it. All in all, a wonderful guesthouse on the edge of the city, modern, clean and equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. GUESTHOUSE STARI TISLER Ljubljana, Slovenia Guesthouse Stari Tisler is a historic lodging place, more than a century old, and in the good old days a center for meetings and chat. There is a great restaurant on the ground floor, and one floor up are the rooms. The central location is great, very easy to locate, close to the bus and train stations, and it's just a 5 minute walk to Ljubljana's Old Town where most of the sights and restaurants/cafes/bars are. The guesthouse has 8 rooms and was fully renovated a few years ago. The rooms are a little basic but clean and comfortable enough and each room has a TV with a good selection of international TV channels. If possible, ask for a room overlooking the courtyard, because the rooms on the front facing the traffic are just a little noisy. The bathrooms are clean and have good hot water pressure. The staff are quite friendly and speak excellent English, for those of you worried about a language barrier. The breakfast is included in the room rate. You don't eat breakfast in the restaurant proper, but there is a cosy room not far from the office in which it is served, buffet style. The choice is not huge, but there is certainly enough to eat including cold meats, cheese. cereal, pastries, breads, yoghurt, coffee, teas and juices. The on-site restaurant is very well run and the food delicious and surprisingly affordable. The free wi-fi works great. The parking is in front of the guest house, but they are city parking places, so you have to pay the meter. So, if you arrive by car, we recommend that you park there, get a ticket for an hour, go and check in, and then go and move your car to the train station car park, which is €8 overnight. In summary, this guesthouse is good value for money being so close to the Ljubljana Old Town. While hardly a luxury place it is comfortable and clean with all the facilities you might expect. PENZION BERC Bled, Slovenia Penzion Berc is a charming family run accommodation housed in an attractive modern alpine chalet style building. It is located in a beautiful quiet area away from the lakeside and busy road but close enough to walk to all the facilities that Bled and its lake had to offer. The grounds are immaculate and beautifully landscaped. The 11 bedroomed pension is full of interesting photos, flower arrangements and small historical items reflecting the previous use as a farm from 1846. They have started taking in tourists in the 1950's after the family stopped farming. The rooms are of a good size and very well appointed and well laid out with carved wood furniture, comfortable beds with the highest quality cotton bed linens, good air-conditioning and en-suite bathroom with a large and divinely perfect shower. There is also a refrigerator in the room and an electric tea kettle with lots of tea choices, coffee, a sparkling wine, some apples, apple juice and bottled water, all free of charge. The breakfast is a treat each day with a great range of choices, hot and cold, which cater for all tastes and set you up well for the day. There's an assortment of cured meats, cheese, cereals, yogurt, breads, grilled vegetables, smoked trout, eggs and sausage and much more. The breakfast could be eaten inside or out in the wonderfully well landscaped garden. The on-site restaurant is excellent and attracts non-residents and we highly recommend a dinner here too. The food and presentation is first class and a delight. The owner Miha and his staff are always available and were welcoming, friendly and attentive. The free WiFi works well in the rooms and it's fast. There is also free parking right outside and the use of free electric bikes is also an added bonus. The bottom line is that this is a wonderful place to stay with comfortable rooms, outstanding food, great staff and a lovely relaxing atmosphere. VILA MILA Bled, Slovenia Vila Mila is a charming and quite luxurious place to stay housed in a completely renovated 100-year old building. The location is great, central but in a quiet area just below the castle, only a very short walk to the lake, restaurants, cafes, grocery store and fruit/vegetable market. The castle is just 15 minutes walk uphill. The grounds are extremely well kept and the lawn, garden and outside sitting/dining/BBQ areas are beautiful and very inviting. There are 6 apartments available in the building, all air conditioned, decorated with old furniture and full of character and with daily housekeeping. Each apartment has a well equipped kitchen where you can cook your own meals and a very modern and well-designed bathroom with nice big shower, good pressure and plenty of hot water. The beds are very comfortable and the linen and pillows are lovely and changed frequently. The breakfast that is available on request is always of a high standard with top quality foods. We would certainly recommend it. The owners Tadeja and Robert could not have been more helpful, friendly, professional and welcoming. They greet you on your arrival, are visible throughout your stay without being obtrusive, and care about you as a guest. There is a nice sauna which is free for guests to use. There is even a laundry room where you can wash and dry all of your clothes for a few Euros. The WiFi and TV with many international channels are flawless and the parking is also a big plus if you need it. In conclusion, a superbly located meticulously maintained property close to the lake and other amenities and the apartments are modern, bright, well equipped and well furnished with high-quality materials. Unquestionably one of the best places to stay in Bled. GUEST HOUSE MLINO Bled, Slovenia Guest House Mlino or Pension Mlino is a beautifully located guesthouse that sits near the lake with a great view across the lake to the castle. The Pletna boats parked right at your door can take you over to the charming island in the middle of the lake. The walk to downtown Bled is about 12-15 minutes, depending on how fast you walk. The downtown area has restaurants, shops, a small casino, the tourist centre, and lots of tour company offices where you can book your activities. The walk to town is easy and there is a path the hugs the lake. The property itself is modern yet homely and spotlessly clean. The rooms with lake view are wonderful, but they are slightly noisier than the non-lake view rooms as they face the road. The bed linens are of high quality and the closet space is ample. The bathrooms are fairly small but more than adequate. There is a restaurant attached to the guesthouse with a large outdoor eating area, which has some beautiful lake views. Food at the restaurant is really good and reasonably priced with traditional Slovenian dishes and vegetarian options. The breakfast is absolutely lovely with plenty of fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt, cakes, fresh breads, cold meats and cheeses in the Slovenian style, plus hot dishes (bacon/sausages etc.) and eggs made to your request. The staff are very welcoming and helpful and speak excellent English, The guesthouse has its own private parking lot with 15+ spaces reserved for guests. Also, great WiFi in the rooms and public area of the guesthouse. In summary: reasonably priced accommodation, clean and comfortable in a great location on the lake. We would recommend this to be a good place to to stay in particular for couples. GUEST HOUSE PACHAMAMA PLEASANT STAY Piran, Slovenia Guest House PachaMama Pleasant Stay is a wonderful family run guest house in an ideal location only metres from the main Tartini square. Everything is only a very short walk away, yet it's quiet and welcoming. The building has been recently renovated and does not show its age at all, inside or out. It's decorated simply with photography from some really cool places from around the world. The rooms are fairly small but are well furnished and very modern in terms of decor and amenities. The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms are just excellent. There is no lift in the building, so if stairs aren't your thing, ask for a lower level room. The owners and staff are friendly, always helpful and accommodating, and always go out of their way to provide you with the best of service. The only downside of this guest house is that there's no breakfast, but there are many places around where you can have a nice breakfast, plus a nice bakery is just around the corner. As for parking, the guest house is in a pedestrian area so you must park in the central multi-story parking facility and take free bus to the town square and walk to it. The WiFi works excellent and we've never had any problems with getting connected or to stay connected. All this together, it is an excellent value for money and a wonderful place to stay in Piran. PENSION SILVIA Portoroz, Slovenia Pension Silvia is a wonderful family run guest house situated in an excellent location between Portoroz and Piran, with easy access to both by foot or bus! A beautiful view of the sea from some of the rooms, especially balconies. The place is very well kept and has beautiful landscaping and garden around. The rooms are modern, have excellent facilities, and are extremely clean! The beds are comfortable with quality linens and pillows that you would expect in a luxury hotel. The bathrooms are modern and nicely appointed. The breakfast is optional but really excellent and well worth the 8 euro per person cost. The service is fantastic, with Silvija and Samo the hosts being unbelievably helpful, nice and very attentive to the guests needs. The free WIFI works excellent, same as the A/C with no noise at all. Free private parking is available which is a great plus as there is no parking in old town Piran and Portoroz. Comparing the prices with the surrounding hotels Pension Silvia is also a fantastic value for money. APARTMENTS ARTEMUS BELVEDER Koper, Slovenia Apartments Artemus Belveder is a wonderful guesthouse type accommodation situated on edge of Koper's Old Town. The location is really superb, very close to everything in Koper. It is especially near the beach and there is a supermarket conveniently located behind it. There are 6 apartments, studios and rooms in the building. They vary in size and shape but are comfortable and very clean and can accommodate two to four people. They have been recently renovated with all mod cons you'll need for a nice stay, including excellent A/C, which is really needed in the summer heat. One of the apartments also have a balcony with a great view overlooking the harbour. The beds are very comfortable and the pillows and linens are nice and soft. The bathrooms are modern and well-equipped, including nice shower stalls with plenty of hot water and ample water pressure. The apartments also have a kitchen with all that you could need to cook your own meals. Everything is very clean and tidy. There is some slight noise from the harbour and from the street but you get that everywhere in Koper. There is no breakfast served at the guesthouse, but all units have a fridge, kettle and microwave, so if you want it's easy to prepare your own, or you could visit one of the many restaurants nearby. The owner, Tjasa, could not have been more helpful, friendly and welcoming. If you are not very familiar with the town of Koper and the Slovenian coast she can really give you some great tips on what to do and where to go. If you are arriving with a car they have a nice parking lot on the property which is a huge plus in Koper's Old Town. The free WiFi works well everywhere in the building. All in all, a good guesthouse to stay if coming to Koper with a car, very close to centre of old town and harbour. There is a bus stop right outside the guesthouse. The whole place is well maintained and surrounding is spectacular. The rooms are of different sizes but kept very neat, clean and tidy and the views from balconies are stunning. The beds are comfortable and the bedding is nice. The bathrooms are modern and of good quality. The buffet breakfast is terrific and has plenty of variety - you can choose from different types of cereals, meats, cheese, fried eggs, pancakes, dried fruits, yoghurt, various teas, coffee, fruit juices and more. The on-site restaurant is considered one of the best in Kranjska Gora and the selection and quality of the food is far above the usual half board standard, The owners and staff are very friendly, accessible, and willing to give advise and suggestions and share local knowledge. MOTEL PRI LESNIKU Maribor, Slovenia There's nothing not to love about Motel pri Lesniku - we would refer it more as a boutique hotel rather than a motel. It's family run and the staff go out of their way to help, advise and generally smooth your stay - nothing is too much trouble. The location is nice, close to the highway and about 8 minutes drive to the centre of Maribor. The building is well kept and everything is very clean and up to date. The rooms are spacious and nicely furnished and the beds are some of the most comfortable we have slept in. There is no lift so if you have issues with stairs or heavy luggage ask for a room on the first floor. The bathroom is modern with a glass shower stall. The breakfast, included in the price, is a huge buffet with lots and lots of choice including cheeses, meats, breads, 3 types of eggs, homemade jams, fruit and more. The on-site restaurant has a reputation of being one of the best in Maribor and there are menu and a la carte options and the food is delicious, There's a lovely garden, a mini golf playground and a small spa area with a sauna, a steam bath, and a hot tub. The location is very convenient, close to restaurants and shops and just a short distance from the bus station, and about a 15-20 minute walk to the Postojna caves. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious with modern light fittings, flat screen TV and a modern bathroom with a shower. The rooms are also very clean with no sign of wear or tear anywhere. The homemade continental breakfast is superb, the food is all fresh and of good quality and generously served. Mira and Boris are brilliant hosts, friendly and helpful, and very knowledgeable on the local area and make you feel very welcome. Hospitality is clearly a passion for them both. The parking is ample and free. The free Wi-Fi works well with excellent signal strength in the rooms as well as around the property. LIPIZZANER LODGE GUEST HOUSE Landol, Postojna, Slovenia Lipizzaner Lodge Guest House is a new, purpose-built guesthouse run by an enthusiastic husband and wife team. The guesthouse is located in the rustic little village of Landol, a short drive from Postojna. The location is excellent to visit the Postojna and Skocjan caves and all the other attractions in the area, including the Predjama Castle which is just down the road, The lodge is spotlessly clean and quite luxurious. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable and the bathrooms are high end, very modern and large. All the rooms are quiet with a view of the countryside, so you can't go wrong with any room. The self-catering suite/apartment is especially spacious and commodious. The common areas are well laid out. There is lovely patio outdoor seating. There is even a lovely cinema room, with a projector and several titles to pick from. The breakfasts are excellent with homemade treats each morning and we also recommend the dinner option. The dinners are superb three course meals and they have lots of great Slovenian wine. The guesthouse itself is really charming and comfortable, but the owners are what makes this an outstanding choice for travelers. Hanna is a terrific cook and Chris knows the area inside out and his advice on trips and activities is always spot on. Free WiFi and free parking are provided too. In summary, rooms are spacious, food is outstanding. location is gorgeous and quiet and owners extremely welcoming and helpful. We can't recommend the Lipizzaner Lodge guesthouse highly enough! VILA PARK INN Ukanc, Bohinj, Slovenia Vila Park Inn is a wonderful family run guest house situated in a tranquil setting at the far end of the Bohinj lake with the beautiful Savica stream at the end of the garden. The place has been beautifully renovated inside using very high quality fixtures and fittings and it feels more like a small boutique hotel than a traditional inn/guest house - it's comfortable, modern and spotlessly clean throughout. The rooms are beautifully appointed with great amenities and they all have balconies with fantastic views. The bathrooms are modern and immaculate. The breakfast is buffet but has everything you could possibly want unless you are a total snob: cold meats, cheeses, cereals, range of breads, fruit, yoghurt, eggs and pastries. If you are half board, the evening meals are brilliant - a mixture of Slovenian food and others and with four courses each night you won't go hungry: a small starter followed by soup, main meal and dessert. Both the owner Jana and staff are very friendly, helpful and accommodating, full of good information and local knowledge. The free wifi and free parking are a plus too.
