HOTELS IN SLOVENIA THAT WE RECOMMEND
From the most luxurious to wallet-friendly, these are the best hotels in Slovenia right now!
GRAND HOTEL UNION
Ljubljana, Slovenia

Grand Hotel Union is a very famous and popular hotel located in the city centre of Ljubljana. The hotel itself is truly remarkable and full of history. It was built in 1905 and many famous guests stayed here including Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II, Bill and Hillary Clinton and the Dalai Lama. At the time it was built it was the largest building in the city. The entire building, both its facade and interior furnishings is designed in the Art Nouveau style. From the moment you step inside the door you just know it's a great place to stay. The decor is breathtaking and the hotel is beautifully maintained. The location of the hotel couldn't be better. It's a 2 minute walk from the Triple Bridge and the Old Town. Central to everything. Although the hotel stands on a main street, part of it is pedestrian so there's very little or no noise. There's a reasonable sized supermarket just at the back of the hotel which is always useful for any items you've forgotten or if you want drinks or snacks. Another real plus is that the hotel is right on the edge of the old town but not in it, so you are able to drive to the hotel and park there. The hotel is really large with 194 rooms and 22 suites. The rooms are clean, tidy, air conditioned, and you can also open the large windows for fresh air. The beds are very comfortable and you can have any kind of pillow that tickles your fancy, including goose down! There's a large TV with several international channels and a minibar/fridge. The bathrooms are good-sized and well appointed with shower, robes, slippers, vanity mirror, tissues, and a good hairdryer (important for the ladies). The pressure on the shower is amazing, the best of all hotels we have ever stayed at. If possible, ask for a room on one of the higher floors, the views are just great. The morning breakfast is delectable and not to be missed! The breakfast buffet includes everything one might expect (both hot and cold). There is a variety of fresh breads, pastries, cold cuts and assorted cheeses, yogurts, fresh fruits, pancakes and oatmeal. There is also sausage, eggs, grilled tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, 7 types of milk, juices, coffee, sparkling wine, smoothies, and lots more. The hotel restaurant is good for evening meals, very competitively priced. The attentiveness by all the staff is second to none. Every single member of staff is courteous, professional but also friendly. There is a wonderful spa and swimming pool on the 9th floor with a Thai theme and stunning views of the city from the small sun terrace. The pool itself is around 10 metres in length so not the biggest but spotlessly clean and offers a refreshing swim after a day walking around town. The complimentary WiFi is also good, fast with good coverage. There is also very good parking facilities in an underground garage if you're arriving by car or motorbike, though the parking is a bit pricey at €20 a night. All in all, a lovely traditional hotel with modern amenities. Very nicely maintained and decorated. The rooms are large, the beds are oh so comfortable, and they offer every amenity you could dream of! Of course, it is not cheap but overall a great hotel, with a traditional atmosphere.

INTERCONTINENTAL LJUBLJANA
Ljubljana, Slovenia

InterContinental Ljubljana is a brand new five-star hotel in Slovenia’s capital. The hotel is ideally located with a 10 minute or less stroll to the Preseren Square and the Triple Bridge - the heart of Ljubljana. The main bus and train station are a three-minute walk away. The hotel is modern and sophisticated, with lots of dark wood, marble and Mediterranean stone. A nice floor-to-ceiling windows and clusters of sculptural light bulbs keep things bright, and plush furnishings and cushions in rich teal and mustard add more pops of color. The hotel is the tallest in Ljubljana and has really fantastic views of the Ljubljana Castle and Slovenian Alps from the upper floors, There are 165 en-suite rooms and they come in 4 categories: superior, deluxe, club rooms and suites. Most rooms have full size bathtubs and large walk-in rain showers. Some also have desks. The décor is sleek dark wood, satin and marble. Nespresso machines are in the club rooms and suites, otherwise you have a kettle and complimentary teas and instant coffee. All rooms have a flat screen TV with several international channels and air-conditioning that works extremely well. The finishes are very high end and everything regarding the rooms is high tech and easy to operate. Two rooms are available for guests with disabilities and all the floors have wheelchair access. A 24-hour room service is available in all rooms. The hotel stands on the intersection of two main roads, but the double glazing keeps the noise out so the rooms are quiet. The breakfast buffet and a la carte dining options for breakfast are excellent. The 20th-floor B-Restaurant is managed by Michelin-starred chef Alfredo Russo and has some of the best food and views in Slovenia's capital. The fine-dining menu is a combination of traditional Italian recipes and Slovenian ingredients and is very well priced. There is also a good wine list of local Slovenian wines. The next-door B-Bar has more than 30 different kinds of gin, and serves honey-based cocktails. There's also the wonderful Bloom Lounge cafe in the ground-floor with great pastries, coffee and lovely lighter meals, salads and sandwiches. Every member of the staff (door men, front desk, concierge, club attendants, restaurant waiter/chef/manager, housekeeping, etc.) has professional skills and positive attitudes. They smile at every encounter. The hotel has a wonderful spa with an indoor pool, hot tub, steam room and 2 saunas on the 18th-floor. Daybeds are set up to make the most of the wonderful panoramic views. A great gym and yoga area are located on the same floor. The hotel is also very family-friendly and the children can borrow games and toys from the front desk and there's a special menu for the kids available in the restaurant. The free WiFi is okay at the hotel - not so strong but not too weak either. The valet parking at the hotel is very expensive, but luckily there is parking across the street which is super easy and reasonably priced. In summary, this is Ljubljana’s tallest and most luxurious hotel with great modern rooms, excellent location, very professional staff, amazing views from the upper floors and a fantastic hotel restaurant with excellent Mediterranean style food. There are benefits to the hotel only being a few months old in that everything is modern, new and extremely clean. If you are willing to pay the cost, the hotel is great in every respect.

HOTEL CUBO
Ljubljana, Slovenia

Hotel Cubo is considered to be one of the best hotels in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana. The hotel is housed in a 1930s residential building that was converted into a hotel in 2011. The location of the hotel is excellent. It's only 5-10 minute walk to the river and Old Town (the heart of Ljubljana), nearby restaurants, cafes, supermarket and all of the sites you will want to see while in Ljubljana. It's also only about a 15 minute walk from the train and bus stations. The hotel is small, only 26 rooms. Housekeeping does a great job and the standard of cleanliness is second to none throughout the hotel. The rooms are beautiful, very modern look, and very modern amenities. The beds are super comfortable with superior sheets, soft pillows, fluffy duvets, and an extra soft woollen blanket (if needed). Lighting is ample from both overhead and side lights. There are numerous outlets for charging devices. There's excellent A/C, a quality sofa, a large flat screen TV with a good selection of cable channels, a mini bar with all beverages (beers, colas, fruit juices, and water) and a safe. A unique plus in the rooms is a Smart Phone, fully charged for one's personal use both in and out of the hotel. Local and international calls (to 10 countries) are included along with an app including touring Ljubljana and the surroundings. The bathrooms are very modern and spacious with double sinks and plenty of space for personal toiletries. Also, not only does the bathtub contain a shower, but there is also a separate walk-in shower. The toilet/bidet is partitioned off by a sliding door for privacy. Toiletries and towels are upscale. Thick, plush bathrobes and slippers are also included. The staff are super friendly and always ready to offer sightseeing tips, make restaurant reservations, etc. The complimentary breakfast is superb, a full spread of anything and everything you could want to eat from many different choices of pastries, breads, cereals, yogurt, fruit, cheeses, meats, juices and specially made to order coffee, eggs and much more. Top notch and the staff in the restaurant is very kind and helpful. Lunch and dinner in the hotel restaurant are nice as well and very reasonably priced. There is a nice little gym in the basement. The front desk has adapters if you forgot yours, child care can be arranged, pets are permitted for €25 per day. The complimentary WiFi is excellent, really good signal, and fast download. The parking is a breeze, actually, you just stop in front of the hotel and they'll park the car for you - no stress. The daily parking rate is a very reasonable €10 per day. All in all, this is a stunning hotel, 5 stars all the way: the staff, hospitality, hotel location, room condition, breakfast, etc., you can't go wrong at the Cubo.

HOTEL TRIGLAV
Bled, Slovenia

Hotel Triglav is a charming family run boutique hotel located on the opposite side of the lake from downtown Bled and it is very quiet and tranquil. It is situated on a hill so has the most stunning views of the lake. It's only 15-20 minutes walk into Bled along the lakeside or a 3-minute drive. The hotel is in classic alpine style, furnished in a way in keeping with its history, but with all the comfort one expects from a good 4-star hotel. All the rooms are very well appointed and many rooms have lovely balconies with stunning views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. We strongly recommend to book a room with a lake view, it's definitely worth it. Odds are that you'll want to spend most of your time on the balcony staring at the beautiful lake and island. The bathrooms are quite spacious, clean, and very modern with beautiful tiles and a great shower. The food is very creatively displayed, beautiful portion sizes and really top quality meats and fish. Absolutely excellent, and well known locally. All the wines and beers are locally produced and the knowledgeable and friendly waiting staff are keenly able to discuss Slovenian food and wine. The breakfast is the usual sort of buffet style with great coffee, fresh fruit, cereals, yogurts, nuts, jam, toast, cold meats, cheese, cooked sausages, cooked vegetables, eggs cooked any way you want, croissants and homemade cakes. The hotel pool, spa area and sauna are spotless and really elegant. The swimming pool is in an amazing position with a wonderful lake view - you swim towards the window looking across the lake as if in an infinity pool. It's really breathtaking. All the staff are welcoming and really helpful and attentive. The WiFi works without any issues, speed is great. There's a small private parking lot on-site. The hotel has a lot of character and history attached to it and is filled with antiques. It has been around since 1906 and has something special which is rare to find, you are made to feel important and so welcome. Plus, there is no other hotel in Bled that will give you the breathtaking views that you get from the Hotel Triglav.

GRAND HOTEL TOPLICE -
SMALL LUXURY HOTELS OF THE WORLD
Bled, Slovenia

Grand Hotel Toplice is a charming, old fashioned, five-star hotel is in a perfect location, right on the Bled’s stunning lake opposite the castle. The hotel is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of The World collection and it is evident why as the service is truly top notch and place a high value to small little things that make the stay extra special. The rooms are quiet, clean and a little bit old fashioned. But is exactly the flair you want here. It is historical not a modern luxury hotel. If you have the possibility ask for a room with lake view. The rooms at back have no view and face the road. No question if you can afford to pay a bit extra it is absolutely worth being lakeside as it changes the whole experience. The bedding is clean white and crisp and beds are very comfortable and have a contraption to enable you to adjust the mattress at each side of the bed. The bathrooms are well appointed with all one could wish for, but although the toiletries are supplied they are not the luxury sort you might expect from a hotel at this level. The breakfast is excellent; very extensive choices with wonderful fresh breads, very nice cheeses and meats, smoked salmon, all the usual fruits as well as drip coffee and espresso drinks and eggs made to order. They also have some nicely done sweets including the locally famous Bled cream cake. If you book half board be warned that the evening meal is a very traditional 4 course sit down meal which is a lovely touch and the food is great but it's not for everyone. Staff are all amazing. Always so welcoming, helpful and friendly. The spa area is well kept and totally relaxing, There is a wonderful indoor pool of natural spring water that is refilled and cleansed daily. It's maybe a little cold for some, but according to hotel staff, they prefer not to alter the natural temperature of the water. The saunas are mixed sex and no bathing clothes allowed however you can cover yourself with a towel or sheet. The WiFi is superb throughout the rooms and public areas of the hotel. There is free parking at the hotel and of course a lift serving all floors except the 5th. Overall an excellent place to stay in Bled.

HOTEL ASTORIA SUPERIOR
Bled, Slovenia

Following a complete - and very impressive - makeover, the Hotel Astoria was re-opened in May 2013 and offers its guests the perfect combination of 4-star luxury at 3-star rates. Many hotels boasting with four stars have less to offer. It's a well appointed, comfortable hotel in a great location, perfectly placed for restaurants, cafes and shops and just a slow five minutes stroll down to the lake. It's also very close to the bus station, so ideal if you arrive by local transport. The hotel is spacious and very clean with great air conditioning. The whole building is well decorated. The rooms and bathrooms are not big but adequate, and the beds are very comfortable. From some rooms, you have a wonderful view on Lake Bled - you can see a lovely church in the centre of the lake which is overlooked by a castle on a spectacular cliff. The bathrooms are modern and clean with good shower pressure. The eat-as-much-as-you-like buffet breakfast is great, hot, varied and regularly topped up. There's fresh fruit, cooked to order omelettes or waffles, cold meats and cheeses, fruit, yogurt, cereals, nuts and dried fruit, different rolls pastries and croissants, juices, coffee and tea. The service and staff attitude is excellent and welcoming. The wellness centre is good but surprisingly for the large area, there isn't a pool. It does have two bathtubs (one indoor, one outdoor) that run alternatively. There are four different saunas and plenty of relaxation areas. The WiFi is excellent in the lounge and restaurant, though the WiFi signal is pretty weak in the rooms. They have free and very easy parking in their garage, which is awesome. All-in-all a great value hotel for the budget-conscious travelers visiting Lake Bled.

MORE RECOMMENDED HOTELS IN BLED, SLOVENIA
HOTEL PIRAN
Piran, Slovenia

Hotel Piran has the prime position in the town, right on the sea-front and two minutes from the main Tartini square and harbour. It is quite possibly the best boutique style hotel on the Slovenian coast. It is housed in a historic building dating back to 1913 and the front exterior is quite beautiful. The hotel was completely renovated in 2013 and we must say it was extremely tastefully done with no expense spared. The lobby is spacious and well decorated and there is a lift to all floors. The hotel has 103 rooms and suites. The rooms are very comfortable and clean with a flat screen TV, air con and nice furnishings. If possible, ask for a sea facing room (ideally on higher floors) to enjoy the harbour views and the little fishing boats coming and going. It costs more but is well worth it. The bathrooms are not very large but they are modern and very clean and shiny and supplied with some lovely Italian toiletries. The shower cubicle is large with a good pressure of hot water. The breakfasts are superb, You can serve yourself or be served. There is a massive choice. You can enjoy cheeses, Slovenian hams, fruits, cereal, yoghurts, juices, you can cobble an English style breakfast together with smoky sausage, Stockmeyer style bacon, eggs and latkes, there is toast, rolls, croissants and just about everything you can desire. The coffee is great and you can get a cup of tea. On fine days breakfast could be taken on the seafront. The hotel has both seafront bar/restaurant and roof top bar. Roof top prices are a little steep, but both areas have wonderful views and you can watch the sunset over the sea. You must book for dinner if you want a terrace table. The food is very good and tasty but quite expensive. The hotel does not have a pool but has a jetty so you can swim in the sea and then relax enjoying drinks from the hotel cafe. You can also hire sunbeds from the hotel along with towels. The staff at the hotel cannot be faulted; nothing is ever too much trouble, they are warm, welcoming and very knowledgeable. There is free WiFi available all around the hotel, but it is pretty slow and rather unstable. Finding the hotel is easy enough if you follow their directions. Arriving by car is fine and you can drive right up to the main entrance and drop off your bags. The car then needs to be driven to the main multi-story car-park on the edge of Piran. This can be done with the help of a hotel driver or on your own and getting back to the hotel either by frequent free shuttle or a pleasant 20 minute walk. The hotel's rate at the car park is much better than simply paying direct to the car park so make sure you arrange this with the hotel reception in advance or on arrival. In summary, a great boutique style hotel in a fantastic location with a very professional and friendly staff and nice and well appointed rooms with modern amenities.

HOTEL TARTINI
Piran, Slovenia

Hotel Tartini is located in the heart of Piran right on the beautiful oval-shaped marble Tartini square. As Piran is a small town the hotel is close to everything you would want to see and do. The hotel is named after a world famous violin player and composer Giuseppe Tartini who was born in a house in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. The design of the building is stylish, nice pink/salmon color outside and the new bits blend well with the old. The centre of the hotel is an open atrium which gives the reception area a spacious feel. There’s a lift and various ramps to access all floors. If you sit in the reception area and look at the shape of the interior, it's not unlike something that Salvador Dali might design. A mixture of lines and curves, steps, ramps with art work adorning all the walls. The hotel is fairly small, having 45 rooms. The rooms are of decent size and uniquely decorated, very clean and furnishings are all very new. The windows have wooden shutters to keep out the sun and noise. Air conditioning works well and there's also a TV and mini fridge in each room. The beds are very comfortable with plenty of pillows and the extra blanket in the closet. Generally you can choose between a sea view or square view rooms and both can be noisy because you are at the heart of the activities in Piran. If you want to feel the life of Piran, ask for a room overlooking the Tartini square and if you like views, request a sea view room (although buildings partly obscure it). All sea-view rooms have a small balcony. The bathrooms are small but modern and everything is spotlessly clean and well maintained and the shower is incredibly powerful. The buffet breakfast is lovely, fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, cheese, vegetables, cold meat, hot food, lovely cakes and you can also order different cooked eggs and bacon. The breakfast is served in a lovely large dining area with inside and outside seating. The hotel restaurant is great, but you'll probably want to eat outside of the hotel as there are plenty of fantastic restaurants in Piran. The staff are just wonderful, accommodating to your every need, very personalized service. There are two very nice outdoor seating areas for relaxing and drinking. One is off the second floor landing, and the other on the roof with fantastic views and both locations have bar service. As far as parking goes, the hotel is in a pedestrian area so you can drive in to drop your luggage and then you have to park right outside town - it is a little less than a 10 minute walk, or you can take the free shuttle which runs every ten minutes. The free WiFi works a little bit slow but it is fine with patience. All in all, a great hotel in the centre of Piran with modern rooms, cordial service and excellent breakfast. Everything is on your doorstep.

HOTEL FIESA
Piran, Slovenia

Hotel Fiesa is a lovely small 3-star hotel perfectly situated right on the coast with an amazing view of the Adriatic Sea. The hotel isn´t in fact in Piran, but a pleasant 15 minute stroll along the coast in nearby Fiesa. You get a torch from the hotel for when it's dark. Around the hotel you will find a few shops, coffee shops, fast food, bars, not a lot but just enough. There is also plenty of water sports for hire just by the hotel. The beach is a rocky cove, not sandy, so its not a strikingly pretty cove. The hotel itself is fairly small, having only 21 rooms and one suite. It was recently partially renovated. The furnishings of the rooms are basic and a bit dated though very clean, but the bathrooms have just been refurbished and they look all new and modern with a lovely large walk in shower and great hot water pressure. Air-con in the rooms is very effective, which is great because it can get really hot in the summer afternoons. The rooms also have a TV and a fridge. If possible, try to book a room with a balcony, it's such a pleasure sitting on it and soaking up the peaceful surroundings and taking in a sea view to die for. The breakfast every morning is a delight, plenty of choice, cereals, salads, eggs, ham, cold meats, cheese, breads, jams, cakes, plenty of fresh water, juice, coffee, tea, and more. The breakfast is served in a large room, never a problem with queues, everything is plentiful. There is also plenty of seating for breakfast inside and out. It is lovely sitting outside every morning overlooking the sea whilst having a leisurely breakfast. The hotel also has a bar and restaurant and serves food daily, but there are some fantastic restaurants in Piran, so you'll probably want to have dinner outside of the hotel. All the staff at the hotel are so welcoming, smiling all the time and so helpful - what more could you want. They can give you lots of information about Piran and the Slovenian coast and also some info on the rest of the places you are going to be travelling to in Slovenia. The free WiFi works fine in most rooms except on the upper floor, where the signal is weak and can be slow. The hotel is easy to find from the highway and there is plenty of free car parking in a secure car park just a few minutes walk from the hotel entrance. Overall a very nice hotel to stay at and a great value for its location.

HABAKUK - WELLNESS HOTEL
Maribor, Slovenia

Habakuk Wellness Hotel is located at the bottom of the Pohorje hill/ski slopes in the outskirts of Maribor, at a distance of about 10 minutes drive to the center of the city. It's a little gem with great indoor and outdoor swimming pools, saunas, excellent room service, multi-lingual staff and delicious food. Especially the indoor pool is fantastic, possibly the best we've seen anywhere. The rooms in the older section of the hotel are more spacious with older design but very comfortable. The new section has very modern designer rooms that are slightly smaller but still very comfortable. The beds and bed linens and pillows are wonderful. The room service is great. The buffet breakfast is also great, good selection and good quality with great service. The staff in general is very friendly, helpful and willing to accommodate your expectations. The free Wi-Fi connection is strong, even at peak hours and the parking is complimentary which is always a big plus. All in all, this is a wonderful hotel with a spa, pools, wellness centre and lots more. If your purpose is to visit and explore Maribor, the distance to the center is a bit of a drawback, but great public transportation is readily available just outside the hotel.

HOTEL CITY MARIBOR
Maribor, Slovenia

Hotel City Maribor is a modern and well-appointed hotel with a great on-site restaurant. It's centrally located right on the river with beautiful views, only five minutes walk to the old town and less than ten minutes walk to the train station. Maribor is a small city, so everything is within walking distance. It may be very contemporary in interior design but is old fashioned warm welcome when it comes to the staff, who are very friendly and helpful and all speak perfect English. The rooms are modern, with large comfortable beds, nice pillows, lots of space, and great bathroom - really everything you'd expect from a good 4-star hotel. The rooms at the front of the hotel face on to a busy street, so if you are too sensitive to noise, ask for a room towards the courtyard and avoid rooms above the terrace. The complimentary breakfast is certainly adequate, nice variety of food if not fantastic. On the fifth floor is a wonderful terrace restaurant and bar - very welcoming and reasonably priced. The free Wi-Fi is available but only one person per room can be logged in at any one time. The parking is possible on site for a small charge (4 euros per day).

MORE RECOMMENDED HOTELS IN MARIBOR, SLOVENIA
HOTEL KEMPINSKI PALACE PORTOROZ
Portoroz, Slovenia

Hotel Kempinski Palace Portoroz is arguably the most luxurious hotel in Slovenia. It is majestic and almost flawless with great facilities, cleanliness and service throughout is first class. Everything is done with great attention to detail and to extremely high standards. From arrival with immediate assistance with luggage and valet parking to a seamless fast check in, one feels immediately very welcome and valued as a guest. There is the older section and newer section. Both side are wonderful, depends on your preference - whether you are a person with classic or modern taste. The rooms in the newer section are more modern and larger and they all have a private balcony, but do not have full sea views although partial views are available. The sea view rooms in the older section are great too, but consider a park view room if you want to guarantee a peaceful night's sleep, because the sea view rooms at the front may be exposed to some late night party noise from the beach bars and cafes across the street. The breakfast on a sun soaked terrace in front of the majestic old wing is a hedonistic delight with plenty of choice. The staff are fantastic, charming and welcoming - they are simply exemplary at every interaction and reflect extremely well on management. There's a superb pool complex with a well equipped gym above. In summary, fantastic location, beautiful gardens, wonderful selection of restaurants with superb food and exquisitely renovated rooms. Everything is so luxurious - the stunning marble bathrooms, the lavish fabrics, the deep and super comfy beds, etc. We could go on and on but we think you get the picture and no detail has been left to chance. For a luxury traveler best hotel and best value often don't go hand in hand but we're happy to say that this is the case here at the Kempinski Palace Portoroz.

HOTEL APOLLO
Portoroz, Slovenia

Hotel Apollo – Terme & Wellness LifeClass was completely renovated in 2014 and we must say they have done a great job. The hotel is part of a complex and is set a little back from the rest of the hotels and there's a little hill that you have to climb - not an issue if you are fit and mobile but really not recommended for the elderly or disabled. The rooms are nicely decorated, modern, fairly large and look brand new. The bathrooms are very nice and everything is very clean. The breakfast is included and the buffet is excellent with a good variety of choices. The food at the hotel's restaurant is wonderful and you can taste very good local and western food here. All the hotel staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. You can also take the advantage of a pamper in the spa, which is connected to the hotel. The free-wifi is consistent and fast and there is on site parking for a small fee.

HOTEL TOMI
Portoroz, Slovenia

Hotel Tomi is a very friendly family-run hotel situated on a small hill above Portoroz, about eight minutes walk from the main strip of Portoroz, so it's quiet and calm whilst still being very close to town. The walk is all downhill which means uphill when you return to the hotel and it's a fairly steep climb back so it's not very suitable for anyone with mobility problems or anyone wearing high heels. The rooms are of average size, very clean but the wonderful balcony and amazing sea views more than made up for it. The breakfast is not luxurious but really tasty and fresh and provides everything you need. The on-site restaurant has a reputation of being one of the best in the Portoroz area. All the staff are very welcoming, friendly and efficient, and nothing is too much trouble. The pool is great with many loungers around and there's a nice rotating bubble feature that travels from a jacuzzi to the pool to the small children's pool and back. The free parking and the free wifi throughout the hotel are also a big plus.

HOTEL VODISEK
Koper, Slovenia

Hotel Vodisek is a fine and efficient three star hotel with 35 rooms. The location is superb. only 5 minutes walk to the railway and bus stations. The beach and the centre of the old town of Koper are a 10 minute walk in the other direction. The situation is on the edge of a commercial area with a shopping mall and several supermarkets just moments away. The hotel is right on the main road, which might cause you some doubt upon your initial approach, but it is quiet at night to allow for a great night's sleep. This is no luxury hotel but the rooms are spacious, clean and well maintained, although the furnishings are slightly dated. The rooms are also well-presented with a comfy banquette off the side of the bed. The beds are comfortable and the bed linen is of good quality and smell fresh. Would be nice to have a fridge and tea / coffee making facility in rooms. The air conditioning in the rooms is very efficient and some rooms also have a balcony. The bathrooms are nice and modern and there's a decent hair dryer in the bathroom. Toiletries provided include soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and also a shoe cleaner and shower cap. The free Wi-Fi speed is sufficiently fast, The staff are very helpful, and go above and beyond to help out, and always happy to answer any questions. The breakfast that is included in the room rate is a buffet, with a wide range of hot and cold options, including white and brown bread, cold meats, sliced cheeses, yogurts, coffee, juices, hardboiled eggs, croissants, a pan to make your own scrambled eggs or omelets with a basket of fresh eggs next to it and more. The restaurant within the hotel is the place to eat. It is run by a master chef winner who presents gourmet, Michelin-star-type Slovenian food at reasonable prices. There is parking at the back of the hotel which is free of charge to hotel guests, just need to display a hotel card you get given at reception on check in. Overall, there is nothing super special about this hotel, but it's a great value compared to many of the other hotels on the Slovenian coast. It is a little bit dated, but the rooms are spacious and clean, the breakfast more than adequate and the staff incredibly helpful and friendly.

HOTEL DOBRA VILA
Bovec, Slovenia

Hotel Dobra Vila (Good Fairy in English) is a charming boutique hotel located in a fantastic setting with stunning views, just on the southeastern edge of Bovec. It is housed in a historic building (the hotel was a telegraph office in Austro-Hungarian times), beautifully restored in Art Deco style. The hotel is exquisite, from its charming exterior, to its stylish rooms, to its clean, open, high-ceilinged spaces. The attention to detail is impeccable! The rooms are large with comfortable beds and plenty of amenities, very well decorated and all the little boutique touches are there. Each room has its own style and it's interesting that room numbers aren't based on floors but rather are seemingly random and related to nearby geographic features like the height of the nearby waterfall. The breakfast is delicious with many choices - cold meats, cheeses, lovely pastries and eggs cooked to your liking. It is served on the wonderful patio, also with that fantastic view. At dinner, a tasty set menu is offered with matching wines for each course. If in the Bovec area and not staying here, make an effort to eat here regardless. Well worth it. The wine list is fairly small, but superbly chosen. The staff are very friendly and always cheerful. They could not be more helpful. There's a wonderful garden with a little brook and chairs. The free Wi-Fi is fast and works excellent throughout the hotel. In summary, this is a gem of a hotel, spotlessly clean, in a great location, overlooking the river, with spacious rooms, outstanding food and attentive staff who pay great attention to detail and to their guests.

HOTEL SANJE OB SOCI
Bovec, Slovenia

Hotel Sanje Ob Soci or 'Dream On The Soca' as it is called in English is a well-designed, newly built hotel on the edge of the town of Bovec. It is surrounded by magnificent mountains of the Julian Alps and only a few minutes away flows the Soca river. The rooms are of varying sizes, from 'economy' on the ground floor to studios and family-sized apartments. The rooms are very tastefully decorated in a minimalist style that matches the natural beauty of the surroundings. The breakfast is superb, mostly homemade and local items (homemade jams, local honey, cheeses, made to order eggs, homemade cakes and more) all fantastic and served beautifully. Everything is freshly prepared, offered at the right temperature and very tasty. The owners Valentina and Bostjan are very friendly and helpful and will give you comprehensive advice on how to make the most out of your time. There is ample parking space provided and there are several hikes available nearby, as well as restaurants and a grocery store. The free WIFI works great everywhere in the building. All in all, an excellent choice for those that are looking for a good place to stay in Bovec while enjoying the outdoors of the Soca Valley.

HOTEL MANGART
Bovec, Slovenia

Hotel Mangart is a newly built modern Alpine hotel located just outside the town of Bovec. It doesn't look very impressive from the outside, although it's quite new and in great shape. The location is wonderful, very quiet and beautiful but within a short stroll of centre of Bovec, and close to a small supermarket, and far enough away from other buildings to have excellent views of the mountains. The hotel is also quiet so its a very good place to rest. The rooms are very clean, beds and sheets are very comfortable. The rooms at the back of the hotel are quiet, away from the road and have fantastic mountain views. Also, try to get a room, which is not on the first floor, as these rooms are right next to the parking lot. The bathrooms are quite large and very clean. Water pressure in the shower is good and heating is well maintained. Toiletries are provided and ample towels. Breakfast is good rather than amazing but there is plenty of lovely bread and mini croissant and fresh fruit. Coffee is from a machine but is fine. The dinners are nice, could be better, but there are still lots of choices for meals with the chance to try all sorts of local treats. Nice patio area outside with small bar with reasonable prices, comfortable chairs and a small plunge pool, not suitable for swimming but refreshing after a day's walking in the area. Where the hotel excels is in the staff. They are all delightful and happy to help in any way. They are always cheerful and speak English very well. There's also a small spa with massage service. The free Wi-Fi is available in all areas and rooms. The parking is free, with ample spaces available. All in all, a good value hotel that has many attributes to recommend it.

Postojna Cave Hotel Jama is a stylish and modern hotel located only a few steps away from the Postojna Caves entrance. The hotel has been refurbished recently and is beautiful. The rooms tastefully decorated and modern and the beds were very comfortable. The bathrooms are good-sized and very clean. The views from the rooms and balconies are fantastic. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is fabulous. It has a delicious assortment of cheese, fruit, cold cuts, sausages, grilled vegetables, eggs made to order, fresh juice, coffees and more. The restaurant at the hotel is wonderful and very reasonably priced given the quality of the food. The Wi-Fi works well throughout the building, which isn't something you can usually say in a hotel! HOTEL KRAS
Postojna, Slovenia

Hotel Kras is a modern hotel that sits on the main town square in the heart of Postojna. The hotel's ultra-modern external appearance is a little sterile, but as soon as you get into the hotel you are reassured. The lobby is spacious, light and bright and comfortable with many seating options. The rooms are large, well appointed and beautifully dressed in modern decor with huge windows overlooking either the square or the main road leading to the caves. There is really no difference in any of the rooms, but if you choose to overlook the square you may encounter some noise. The rooms with the view over the road are quieter and you also get to see the mountains. The air conditioning is terrific and you can also open a window for really fresh air. The bathrooms are clean and spacious and the shower has a good water pressure and temperature. The breakfast is served in the foyer of the hotel, but it is delicious, a step above the standard fare with bread and rolls, coldcuts, croissants and pastries, cereal and granola, scrambled and hard-boiled eggs, hard and soft cheeses, fruit, juice, various coffees, and more. The staff are great, very informative and helpful, providing information about the caves and other sights in the Postojna area and recommending good restaurants for dinner (there are two very nice restaurants very close to the hotel). The underground parking is very convenient and the free Wi-Fi works well with excellent signal strength. All in all, it is a quality hotel with a professional staff and very convenient location,

HOTEL MITRA
Ptuj, Slovenia

Centrally located in the quiet and charming town of Ptuj, the Hotel Mitra is a beautiful historical hotel with lots of character and a bit of luxury. Its décor is traditional with an attractive, flower-festooned pink exterior. The building has three floors and opened as a hotel in the 19th century. Despite its age, the hotel does have a lift. The location in the centre of the old town cannot be beat. Ptuj is a charming town that offers a lot of history and things to see and do, and Hotel Mitra is right in the heart of it all. Lovely cafes, restaurants and shopping right across the street, and the Ptuj Castle is up some stairs right around the corner from the front door. The rooms are well-maintained and spotlessly clean and have everything one needs, including comfortable beds, a fridge, flat-screen TV, WiFi and also character! Each room has a piece of artwork that goes with the room (signs are in the hall by the room number). The hotel is in the center of the old town so there is little external noise, but the windows are double glazed so things are nice and quiet when they're closed. The rooms are air conditioned, if needed. The bathrooms are well kitted out and spotless with a strong hot shower. The breakfast is very good, with cooked eggs and sausages in addition to the usual yogurt, cold cuts, cheese, bread, cereal, etc. There certainly is no excuse for going away hungry. The service is outstanding - nothing is too much for any of the staff who speak English and German. The hotel has undergone a makeover two years ago and has some wonderful facilities including the wine cellar, the wellness centre on the second floor and a lovely lobby area. The wine cellar is well worth a visit and recommends tasting some of their fine selection of Slovenian wines. Note that it's priced by the wine tasted, not a flat fee. There's also great al fresco eating/drinking/talking on the pavement outside in the summer months. Free roadside parking is available, but the spots are very limited and a bit small. The Wi-Fi signal is weak in some of the rooms, but otherwise works well. Overall, the Mitra is a fantastic place to stay while visiting Ptuj. The rooms and bathrooms are quite luxurious, the common spaces are lovely and the location perfect. The whole hotel exudes charm with a consistent style and a coherent aesthetic.

HOTEL POMARANCA

Hotel Pomaranca is a new and very comfortable modern hotel located on the edge of Ptuj, but only a pleasant ten minute walk to the town centre. It's also within easy walking distance to the Ptuj thermal spa and water park. The exterior isn't really particularly impressive, but once inside it's a whole different story. It's spotlessly clean, the rooms are modern, spacious and bright with very comfortable beds, great A/C and large bathrooms with big showers and good hot water pressure. There's an excellent restaurant attached to the hotel which provides a very comprehensive breakfast with cold and hot food and is a great place to eat at lunchtime or in the evenings. The food is delicious with generous portions for a very reasonable price. The staff is exceptionally welcoming and friendly. Nothing is ever a problem. The Wi-Fi works well throughout the hotel. There is plenty of parking space available and they also have a children's play area. The rooms are a bit outdated, but spotlessly clean and comfortable. Do try to get a room facing the harbor with a balcony and if you want the best views, try to aim for the third or fourth floor. The bathrooms are on the small size, but clean and modern. The breakfast is plentiful with a wide range of food and drinks available. The hotel restaurant is slightly more expensive than most of the other nearby ones, but the food is excellent and guests receive a 10% discount. SKIPASS HOTEL

Skipass Hotel is a beautifully designed and extremely well run family hotel with only ten rooms, but it's also modern and sophisticated with up-to-date facilities. The location of the hotel is excellent, only a 5 minutes easy walk to the old town square and ten minutes walk to the main chairlifts of Kranjska Gora. The ski slopes can be seen from the hotel and the hotel has wonderful views of the mountains. We're genuinely struggling to find the words to describe how extraordinary this hotel is. Superlatives come easy after a visit here as just about everything is really first class. Skiing holidays can be very expensive and you will never find a hotel of this quality and level of service at this price in Austria, Switzerland, France, or Italy - it will probably cost you at least double. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and the bed, bedding and pillows are of high quality and extremely comfortable. The modern bathroom is amazing with under floor heating and great shower pressure. The food is exceptional - the breakfast is a generous varied buffet with eggs, meat, etc. cooked to order and the evening meal is three courses with a range of dishes wonderfully presented and served. The staff, mostly family is awesome and their dedication to ensuring their guests have the best possible stay is commendable. We have never stayed in a hotel where the staff took so much pride in sustaining the high reputation that they have built up over the years.
