About Maribor, Slovenia
Maribor is the second largest city in Slovenia and the economic, educational, cultural and sports centre of the northeastern part of the country. It lies on the Drava river at the meeting point of the Pohorje massif, the Drava Valley, the Dravsko Polje plain, and the Kozjak and Slovene Hills ranges.
Maribor is best known for its historic streets, medieval remains, a beautiful city park, a castle, a cathedral and one of the largest and oldest wine cellars not only in Slovenia but in all of Europe. It is some 125 kilometres (78 miles) northeast of Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana. It has about 95,000 residents.
