Living Nativity Scenes set in the jaw-dropping Postojna Cave in the Christmas time

Slovenia is known as a country with a long tradition of nativity scenes, which are an important and very popular symbol of Christmas celebrations. Each year, many nativity scenes are on display all around the country.

The most unique and the most famous living nativity scene is staged along a 5 kilometre (3 mile) path inside the jaw-dropping Postojna Cave. Each year more than 150 performers are acting out the Biblical story of Christmas in 16 scenes set along the path. The nativity scenes are open to public for five or six days in the week between Christmas and New Year.

The tradition of living nativity scenes started in 1989 and features costumed performers, actors and singers amid light and sound effects. The event has quickly become one of the most awaited annual events in the festive season with visitors from all over Europe and the world who all come to watch come enjoy this unique spectacle.
