Introducing The Loggia Palace In Koper
The Loggia Palace is a Venetian Gothic building situated on the Tito Square in the centre of Slovenia’s largest coastal town Koper. It’s known as the only preserved Gothic town hall in Slovenia. The earliest part of the present building dates from 1462, when building work began on a replacement for an earlier Loggia that had stood on the same site on the north side of Koper’s main Tito Square, opposite the Praetorian Palace. Following a plague outbreak in Koper in 1553, the facade of the building was embellished with coats-of-arms, and a terracotta statue of the Madonna and Child was erected in a niche above the left corner column. In 1698, a second storey was added and the facade was extended with two additional arches taken from the west side of the building.
Today, the Loggia houses a very popular cafe on the ground floor and a well known art gallery on the second floor.
Loggia Palace Review
With its impressive Gothic-style lancet arches, the 15th-century Loggia building stands on the northern side of the wonderful little historic Tito Square in the heart of the old city. Its ground-floor arcade is now a café, where you can relax with a cup of cappuccino or a glass of red wine and enjoy the history, culture and beauty of the square and its stunning synthesis of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. The café is very clean, reasonable and the staff is most courteous and friendly. It’s open daily from 7:00 to 22:00. Be aware that there are a few steps and no access for wheelchairs.
A side door leads to the first-floor Loza gallery. The gallery mostly features solo presentations of established Slovene artists. Occasionally the gallery gives the podium to the group exhibitions prepared by house curators, often with international or national cooperation.

– daily from 7:00 – 22:00.
Opening hours for the Loza gallery:
– from June 16th to August 31st: Tuesday to Sunday 9:00 – 14:00 and 20:00 – 22:00, closed on Mondays;
– from October 1st to June 15th: Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 – 17:00, closed on Mondays.
