About Piran, Slovenia
Piran is a postcard-pretty coastal town situated at the tip of a narrow ‘V’ shape peninsula at the northern end of the Adriatic Sea in southwestern Slovenia, about halfway between Trieste (Italy) and Rovinj (Croatia). It is the prettiest town on Slovenia’s short Adriatic coastline, famous for its Venetian-style architecture with a spectacular cathedral and its bell tower, tightly compressed picturesque houses, atmospheric narrow streets, and the most incredible town square named after the composer Giuseppe Tartini.
Although never an island, Piran is surrounded by the sea on three sides and by the remains of its town wall built from the 7th century onward on the other. It has been settled since ancient times. Today, it’s known as one of the best-preserved historical towns anywhere on the Adriatic and has a population of over 4,100 people. It is protected in its entirety as a cultural monument. No words can do this beautiful town justice so we’ll leave it up to the pictures.
