Terme Catez Overview
Terme Catez is the largest and possibly the most popular thermal bath complex and spa in Slovenia. It’s located in southeastern Slovenia near the town of Brezice.
Terme Catez boasts a range of therapeutic and leisure facilities from an enormous water park which includes over 12,000 square metres of water surface area of indoor and outdoor thermal pools and attractions, to wellness centre, saunas, three hotels, and huge campground. The pools are heated to 36°C. If you are looking to relax for a few days or to indulge in some serious pampering then come here.
Terme Catez History
In Catez, hot springs were discovered at the end of the 18th century. About fifty years later the first private spa was built by Father Edvard Zagorc. It was a basic wood cabin with a pool. In the 1920s a small resort was built on the same spot offering many therapies and treatments for a wide variety of disorders, but it was not until the 1960s when Catez began to develop as an important thermal bath and spa centre in the region when the first large pools and hotels were built.
Terme Catez Review
Located 3 km southeast of the town of Brezice across the Sava river, Terme Catez is Slovenia’s largest thermal bath complex and spa.
Terme Catez’s enormous Summer Thermal Riviera area is packed with family-friendly fun and is extremely popular on summer weekends. It comprises a dozen of thermal pools and bathing areas with the average water temperature around 30°C, with an impressive array of wave machines, waterfalls and slides, and dedicated water parks for children of all ages.
For the colder months, there’s indoor action at the Hotel Toplice’s dome-topped Winter Thermal Riviera, which is a massive complex spanning 2300 square metres with myriad water slides, wave pools, whirlpools and water massage machines. Water temperatures average 33°C. Night swimming is possible on Saturdays, which is a special attraction.
If you fancy sweating off a few kilograms, visit the sauna park inside Hotel Toplice, which incorporates eight saunas, including the Indian sauna, Salt sauna and Finnish Aroma sauna.
The staff are helpful and friendly and will do their best to make you feel welcome.
There are numerous snack bars and cafes sprinkled around, none of which particularly stands out.
Thermal pools aren’t Terme Catez’s only attraction – you can also play tennis and golf, take a boat out or fish in the Sava River, go horseback riding or try your skill at archery.
Terme Catez offers accommodation in three pricey hotels (Hotel Terme, Terme Catez, and Hotel Toplice) and various, more attractive options including a tourist village (Terme village – Apartments Terme Catez), and two camping sites (Camp Terme Catez which is open all year and Indian Village which is open from May to October).
There’s a tourist office opposite the Hotel Toplice (Topliska cesta 35). They’ve got bikes for rent.
Overall, the vast Terme Catez thermal bath complex and spa is one of the main attractions in the area and offers year-round water-based fun for all the family. Several special holiday packages are available throughout the year, with significant family discounts.
