Cerkno Ski Resort Review
Just 50 kilometres west of Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana, this family-friendly ski resort is considered to be the most modern, safest ski resort with the fastest ski lifts in Slovenia. It has 70 hectares of ski slopes for beginners to experienced skiers, and has been selected as the best Slovenian ski resort several times in a row.
Although only one run is rated difficult black, this is connected with a long intermediate red difficulty slope to cover the most of the mountainside. The runs are well groomed and the staff is very friendly and helpful. All runs have snow making capabilities to provide adequate snow if nature doesn’t cooperate.
The main big advantage of this centre is the modern infrastructure. There are 2 very fast 4-person chairlifts, 1 fast quad chairlift and one ordinary fixed 4-person chairlift. Also there are 2 drag lifts. There are never long lift lines. For kids and beginners, there are conveyor lifts, nursery slopes and a ski school.
For those seeking an adrenaline rush, there’s a lovely snow-park with half-pipe. For those looking for more of a physical workout, there is 5 kilometres of cross-country skiing trails.
At the top, you’ll find a nice self-service restaurant with kids’ adventure park and panoramic terrace with stunning views of the highest Slovenian mountains, including Slovenia’s highest mountain Triglav.
The lifts are accessible by car: from the capital, Ljubljana, drive to Skofja Loka, then head west through Poljane, Gorenja Vas to Hotavlje where you turn left at the Lipan restaurant. After a few minutes you will reach Pocivalo and a 6-person chairlift station.
The ski season usually lasts from mid-December till early April.
All in all, Cerkno is a fantastic ski resort – especially for families. Excellent skiing conditions almost all the time, good equipment in terms of lifts and snow machines. The staff – from the rentals area to the slopes are great and very kind. Everything at the resort is great with all services supplied. The restaurant is nice with good food at good prices and again the staff is lovely. The slopes are well groomed and the snow is great.
