With reasonably warm summer weather and pretty chilly winters, Bohinj is at its most appealing between the months of May and September, when high temperatures are most likely.

Bohinj’s summer season is welcomed by the locals and many of the city’s cafes, bars and restaurants begin to spill out onto the streets at this time, to take advantage of the sunny weather and warm evenings, often remaining busy well into the night. However, do bear in mind that the climate in Bohinj can be a little unpredictable at best, with rainy spells being a distinct possibility in any month.

In general, the winter season in Bohinj falls between the months of November and March, with January being the coldest month, when daytime temperatures stay just above freezing and often fall below -3°C, when snow is likely.

The summer season is without doubt the best time to visit Bohinj. The climate in Bohinj can become rather hot during the summers, often rising above 25°C on the sunniest of days or even topping 30°C on occasion, hovering around 15°C on some of the most balmy nights. In July and August it is possible to swim in Lake Bohinj. The water in the lake is usually fresh but perfectly OK. When staying in Bohinj in the summer period, pack mainly lightweight clothes, but also a waterproof coat or similar, in case you experience an unexpected soaking.

The winter climate in Bohinj is at its most chilly between December and February, when you can expect widespread, overnight frosts at times, particularly during January. Whilst many of the winter days do remain a little cloudy and overcast, sunny days often break up the rather grey days and provide a glimpse of the springtime weather around the corner.
