Introducing Pericnik Waterfall
The Pericnik Waterfall is a well-known waterfall in Slovenia and is part of the Triglav National Park. There are actually two waterfalls: the Upper Pericnik Waterfall, which is 16 meters (52 feet) high and the Lower Pericnik Waterfall, which is 52 meters (171 feet) high and is usually simply known as The Pericnik Waterfall.
Pericnik Waterfall Review
Waterfall Pericnik is another delightful waterfall in the Triglav National Park, located in the gorgeous mountain valley of Vrata, a few minutes drive from the village of Mojstrana. The road from Mojstrana is a bit narrow at places and slightly winding and uphill, but not too difficult. It follows the lovely small Triglavska Bistrica river, which is so beautiful and pristine. A short 5 minute trail up to the Pericnik waterfall is fairly steep but not too hard going unless you have a mobility concern.
The waterfall itself is stunning and very photographic, it drops a spectacular 52 meters and is one of the highest waterfalls in Slovenia. The unique thing about Pericnik is that you can walk behind the waterfall, and if you don’t mind being sprayed with mist, you can descend right down to the pool at its base. Just make sure you wear a waterproof jacket or at least a hoodie. The waterfall is also well worth seeing in winter when it turns into innumerable icicles and floes in delicate shades of blue and green.
It is also possible to climb to the Upper Pericnik waterfall. This one is smaller and has a 16-meter drop. The trail is on the left if you face the lower waterfall, the walk isn’t strenuous at all and it is more than worth the effort.
