Golte Ski Resort Review
Golte Ski Resort is considered small by European standards, but mid-sized for Slovenia.
Access to the ski slopes is by car on the well-maintained paved panoramic road from the Radegunda village or by cable car, which takes you from an altitude of 490 meters straight to the resort, located at an elevation of 1,410 meters. The length of the cable car is 3,265 meters, making it the longest cable car in the country.
The piste area is around 13 kilometres, so it doesn’t have the expanse that some resorts has. However, there are easy blues, easy & challenging reds, and the 900-metre-long black rated (difficult) piste called Slalom. The slopes are wide and the longest run is about 1,6 kilometres, though if you want some off-piste action, you can exercise your more daring side as well, just turn from Golte in the direction towards Smrekovec or Raduha.
The trails are groomed over night and ready for the skiers and snowboarders in the morning. The views of the Savinja Valley from the slopes are super nice. The lifts can be a bit busy at the weekend when the locals hit the slopes but otherwise queues are generally small or non-existent.
There’s a great ski and snowboard school with helpful, friendly, experienced instructors. The ski hire equipment is available as well, and although it’s a bit dated and could do with renewing, it’s good value for money.
The facilities are nice and modern, and there is a lovely new hotel at the foot of the slopes with two restaurants, a night club, bar, spa, gym, and superb business facilities. There are also a couple of mountain cottages and several apartments near the piste.
Depending on precise weather conditions, the resort is open from some time in December until early April.
All in all, this is a nice, compact resort for all levels of skiing abilities. They have a variety of blue and red slopes for beginners and intermediate skier. There is only one black slope which is not for the faint hearted, but very fun to complete. Our only criticism is that the ski hire equipment is a bit dated and could do with renewing. Then again, it is half the price of resorts in the neighbouring Austria and the hire staff are very helpful.
