One of the most remarkable natural attractions in Slovenia is Vintgar Gorge. It’s located not far from Lake Bled and is a natural gorge running through the hills of Hom and Borst for about 1.6km with the jade green Radovna River coursing along it.
Walking through the Vintgar Gorge is such an amazing experience. The walk is very well set up with platforms and bridges over the crystal clear jade-green water. It is clearly one of the best things to do in the Lake Bled area. Just look at it!

Vintgar is a deep canyon where the emerald green Radovna River flows at the bottom and mountain walls rise vertically above the gorge.

The trail winds its way beneath sheer cliffs, passing swirling rapids and whirlpools of the Radovna River on the way.
During winter the gorge is officially closed, although it’s still possible to go into it.
In winter you can enter at your own risk, but if you do, it is a most extraordinary place.
The gorge is a stunning place at all times of the year and always coolish in temperature. If you visit it in winter, be careful and wear a good pair of shoes with good soles. And probably go in a group in case anything does happen.

The highlight is the 1600-metre-long wooden walkway, built at the end of the 19th century and continually rebuilt since.
You can imagine why Vintgar Gorge is such a popular natural destination. Look at this shade of green!
At the end of the trail is the Sum waterfall, which is actually the highest river waterfall in Slovenia.

The facility comprises the 18-hole King's Course and the 9-hole Lake's Course. The 18-hole King's Course is pretty challenging and plays host to several tournaments and other events during the year, while the 9-hole Lake's course is a bit easier option for those whose handicap is too high, or those with not-so-deep pockets. Club membership is invitation only, but both courses are regularly open to the general public with advanced booking. |
