Lake Bohinj is Slovenia’s largest glacial lake tucked away in the northwestern corner of Slovenia. It is 4,350 meters long, 1,000 meters wide and up to 45 meters deep, covering 318 hectares. It is located inside the Triglav National Park and surrounded by the majestic mountains of the Julian Alps.
Lake Bohinj Review
Lake Bohinj is located barely one hour from Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana. It’s a beautiful peaceful place to rest and unwind as you breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the beauty of the untouched nature in the Triglav National Park. If you like nature this is one of the best places to visit in Slovenia. The Alps dominate the scenery and on a nice sunny day the water looks like a piece of glass reflecting everything so perfectly. All spots you could possibly stop have wonderful scenic views.
The area offers abundant opportunities for outdoor activities from walking, horse riding, cycling, mountain biking, trekking, fishing, water sports (rafting, kayaking, canoeing, canyoning, hydrospeed, etc.). It’s possible to rent a boat and go around the lake. It’s also possible to swim in the summer months. The water is a little colder to swim in than Lake Bled but it is easier to find somewhere more secluded – there are plenty of shady beaches, basically you can enter the lake anywhere where you find a place.
There is also the Vogel cable car which is a must do for a magnificent view over the whole lake. And you can also visit the nearby Savica waterfall. It has been said that once you visit Bohinj, the memory will forever be ingrained in your memory.

Overall Rating: Mostnica Gorge is one of the most beautiful natural attractions in the Lake Bohinj area. It's located in the Voje valley near the Stara Fuzina village, about 2 km northeast of the lake. The gorge is two kilometres long and was carved by a Mostnica stream. The walk in both directions takes about an hour and a half and is quite easy, not strenuous at all. It’s a really nice walk through the forest, while you admire the emerald green water. |
