All You Need To Know To Visit Lake Bohinj in Slovenia

Introducing Lake Bohinj

Lake Bohinj is Slovenia’s largest glacial lake tucked away in the northwestern corner of Slovenia. It is 4,350 meters long, 1,000 meters wide and up to 45 meters deep, covering 318 hectares. It is located inside the Triglav National Park and surrounded by the majestic mountains of the Julian Alps.

Lake Bohinj Review

Lake Bohinj is located barely one hour from Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana. It’s a beautiful peaceful place to rest and unwind as you breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the beauty of the untouched nature in the Triglav National Park. If you like nature this is one of the best places to visit in Slovenia. The Alps dominate the scenery and on a nice sunny day the water looks like a piece of glass reflecting everything so perfectly. All spots you could possibly stop have wonderful scenic views.

Places to stay in Slovenia

The area offers abundant opportunities for outdoor activities from walking, horse riding, cycling, mountain biking, trekking, fishing, water sports (rafting, kayaking, canoeing, canyoning, hydrospeed, etc.). It’s possible to rent a boat and go around the lake. It’s also possible to swim in the summer months. The water is a little colder to swim in than Lake Bled but it is easier to find somewhere more secluded – there are plenty of shady beaches, basically you can enter the lake anywhere where you find a place.

There is also the Vogel cable car which is a must do for a magnificent view over the whole lake. And you can also visit the nearby Savica waterfall. It has been said that once you visit Bohinj, the memory will forever be ingrained in your memory.

  1. Simply beautiful. Bohinj is perfect for all sorts of outdoor activities, from challenging hikes to lazy sunbathing by the lake,

  2. Lake Bohinj is extremely beautiful, super clean and you can spend days and weeks walking around its edge, or kayaking and rowing in its waters. There are several lovely discrete bays you can sunbath in. We saw a some people Triathlon training, running around the lake, swimming in the water and cycling, an ideal training venue.

  3. Lake Bohinj and the surrounding mountains give a sense of tranquility and majestic presence that I’ve rarely found elsewhere.

  4. Lake Bled has the famous sights but it also has the tourists. Go to Lake Bohinj to enjoy the beautiful countryside with wonderful lake and fantastic mountains.
